Okay, so I know there's a YJ thread here already, but that has like, two trillion pages on it, so Im starting a new thread for this.
With the second season about to start, who are you expecting/hoping to see? We've seen a lot of images so far; Blue Beetle, Lagoon Boy (groan), Wonder Girl, Bumblebee, and so on.....but who, if any, will stick around? What are your expectations for the new guys?
For me....
Blue Beetle. This one is almost a guarantee for full time membership. Jamie has been pushed hard by DC for years. His powerset adds nicely to the team and he's as close to getting a Green Lantern as we are going to get, unless they de-age Kyle Rayner by about ten years like they did with Zatanna. He has a fun personality; he's smart and has a sense of humor. I can see him being both a voice of reason at times, and also getting caught up in the goofy stuff too. He'll be a full time member by the end of the season or I will eat my hat, as the saying goes.
Kyle Rayner. This didnt occur to me until I wrote it just now, and I think it would be a fringe possibility at that. But they de-aged Zee, so there is precedent for it. The Lantern franchise is one of DC's most popular and I can see having a Lantern on the team being a big hit with the audience. However....it raises the question of why a teen/young adult is being trusted with a ring. Perhaps something happens to Hal or John or Guy? And with Beetle showing up, the powersets sort of overlap a little. Still, Kyle's got that sensitive artist thing going on which is a personality archetype the team doesnt really have covered yet, so....you never know, but I still doubt it. Wont rule it out, but I doubt it. A lot.
Starfire. Why not? She has a history with Grayson in the comics and they met as teens. The season is about an alien invasion. Kori could be tied to that; a refugee fleeing to earth. Her powerset is sort of similar to Rocket's, but she adds a personality type that would certainly create drama. She's emotional and sensual and a warrior at heart. I dont think she's in the cards though. If she was, she'd likely be showing up sooner rather than later and we would have heard about it. Plus shes not a sidekick, and as I said, her powers are a bit akin to Rocket's, with the flight and glow effects and energy manipulation (assuming Rocket can do that. We have yet to see her do anything other than fly and make force fields.) As with Kyle, I wont rule it out completely but I would be surprised to see her.
Cyborg. I think he'd be great, but he sort of steps on the toes of Robin and Beetle both. Still, he's gotten a big push recently and Johns, the head of DCE, loves him. Like Kori, I think he's a fringe, unlikely possibility. I mean like, there might a be 10% chance of him showing up, at best.
Lagoon Boy. Seriously, of all the characters to use....Lagoon Boy? I dont see why. I really dont. In fact, Im not even going to touch this one. I just hope he has a very small, irregular spot in the show. Or better yet, a one-time appearance.
Wonder Girl. Well, the licensing issues with Wonder Woman have been resolved, as I understand it, making Diana's roster of characters more appealing (ie., cheaper to use) in other media. Cassie offers some fun powers in the bullets and bracelets category and rounds out the sidekick Trinity. I would expect her powers to be adjusted so she doesnt step on Conner's toes, like they did with Megan. There is plenty of potential for love triangles and given Diana's statements about Batman bringing a child into battle, it could create some drama with the adults. We've already seen her in trailers, the question is how much of a role she will have. I suspect she will be a regular and end up with full time membership, just like Beetle.
Batgirl. I expect to see Babs, who we saw briefly in her civilian ID, to show up, but not much more than that. We already have Robin and getting too deep into Batman's long list of sidekicks....I just dont see the show going there. A cameo or two, and thats about it. This goes for Flamebird as well.
Bumblebee and Vox. Well, we knew this was coming right? I sort of figure we will see them as semi-frequent guest stars, though the foundation is certainly there for them to become larger players. I think they'll be the "Red Arrow" of the season; with their own subplots and a few episodes centered on them, but they wont be around all the time. If the team ends up breaking into separate groups, they'll be on one.
Static. All the cards seem to be in his favor. He had a cartoon of his own. He's Milestone's most popular character. He has a unique and useful powerset and personality. He has a cool costume. DC went to a lot of trouble to get access to him. And the show is already using Icon and Rocket. I would give him better than average chances of showing up, if not becoming a (semi) regular.
There are a few others I sort of half expect to see, but this is more than enough to get the discussion started.
