The politicians and activists who are often the most vocal in their anti-gay vitriol usually end up being the ones caught up in sexual scandals (frequently with members of the same sex). See Larry Craig, Michele Bachmann's husband, Jimmy Swaggart, etc etc. It's the worst form of reaction formation you're likely to see.
