Change has to be done in a way so that it's the result of growth and experience. That growth and experience came under the 100+ issues of the first Superboy series. Johns's changes in a lot of ways contradicted a lot of that development.

I disagree. Under Johns, Kon found out he was related to Luthor, which is going to immediately change how he sees himself. That's like finding out half your DNA comes from Hitler. You think that's not going to change someone? Johns portrayed how such a reveal would affect a person very well, IMO.

He did, but he didn't portray how it would affect a specific character whose personality had already been developed in a different way. Kessel's Superboy found out he was a full clone of Paul Westfield. The series dealt with how it sucked, and how he got over it.

But even then, my complaint isn't really that, it's that this kind of drama was just unnecessary for the character in the first place. It got tiresome and annoying for me. It's like Tim Drake. Sure the angst was justified - lot of crap happened to him. But it's not the kind of drama I want to read with these characters, nor is it the kind of drama associated with them for years I enjoyed them.

We're comparing Luthor to Hitler now? I really don't think Luthor is that big a deal. But then, I don't quite get the appeal of Luthor anyway.
