Warner Bros. Hires Director Brad Peyton for "Lobo"

I'm not sure what the focus is on the better characters. There were other characters besides Jonah Hex and they still made that. Obviously there's no real priority with these comic films. And just because one comic film is being made doesn't mean we also won't get another one like GL2, even if the first was mediocre. (Though really, Superboy?)

I thinking it has to do with what sounds better on paper. A character like Flash, whose whole thing is running fast doesn't sound as interestings, or as easy to sell as a Western, or a biker space opera. The movie has been kicking around for a while too, Guy Ritchie was going to do it a few years ago.

Mediocre is being very kind to what Green Lantern is.

i think this is an interesting decision from wb. There is certainly an audience for Lobo. The "anti superhero film" so to speak. Hopefully they do him more justice than Green Lantern. That film truly was horrendous.

And they will make him job to some blonde girl/sidekick character.
I am thinking Wonder Girl or Super Girl.

I just wish they would let the DC Animation squad to a drdvd LOBO flick.

That I would have hopes for being actually decent.

Well we don't know if he's going in full-on job mode or whether it'll be like the Blue Beetle/Teen Titans crossover where he couldn't complete his job. Lobo, should be able to take out most of the team with a tap on the forehead.

Lobo is one of those characters that makes me cringe whenever I see him. I think the most recent Brave and the Bold comic was the first time I ACTUALLY enjoyed his appearance.

I realized at a certain point, I don't give a rat's ass about Lobo unless Giffen is writing. And even then, that last Lobo mini was pretty terrible. Although the Lobo/Authority book that came out about the same time was pretty awesome.


Check that, Lobo was awesome in Bedard's REBELS. But he was also used sparingly, and as part of an ensemble.

Honestly, though, when I first heard there was gonna be a Jonah Hex movie, I was hopeful-- how could you screw up a straight forward western with a cool main character? ...I wasn't asking for a demonstration... :P I'm no longer hopeful for DC movies until they find creative teams/financial backing that they put into their Bat/Supes films.

I fragging love Lobo. But this sounds like it'll probably be a crappy flop. I mean, I could be wrong, I've been wrong before, and I'm not going to judge a movie before it has even been made. But there's nothing here to fill me with confidence.
Least that Paramilitary Christmas fan film was good.

agree on all counts: that Paramilitary film was perfect. Just enough violence, tons of humor and everything was still true to that particular story, plus Andrew Bryniarski nailed the Main Man. As far as the movie, don't know what DC is thinking, but I won't worry until after I've seen it.

All are valid points but I will say that there are others out there that can produce good LOBO.
Alant Grant wrote the vast majority of the Main Man back in the day. And Bedard's and Geoff Johns portrayl in ths issue of GL

was pretty darn good,as well as with the Authority crossover(at least the first one) There are writers out there who can deliver a good LOBO story.
But DC being run by idiots will always go with people that don't want to give us that LOBO. they want to give us that crap like LOBO/Batman/Highway to Hell.

I kinda always prefered Grant's Lobo myself. He always hit just the right balance of utter nonsense and brutal carnage. That's all people really want.
