That logo is SO awful that someone realized it needed a typeset "DC Comics" below it so people would know what it represents. Any logo that is too clever for its own good -- every time I see it I have to really THINK about what I'm seeing -- is a truly rotten one.

It reminds me a little of the new Doctor Who logo, actually a couple years old by now, I suppose. Same sort of feel to it and similar idea of making one symbol convey two separate but related things - the DW meant to look like the Tardis and here the one sign mean to be both D and C. Neither one works very well, IMO.

    Bring back the bullet!

The bullet signifies many years of good comics Moore on Swampy, Delano on Hellblazer and the Levtiz-Giffen Legion. The new logo looks bleh.

And I'm down to three books from the New 52. Maybe I'm a classic comics crumuddgeon?

It looks better when seen on an actual cover but
Empty winds scrape on the soul never stop to realize/Animal whisperings intoxicate the night
Hypnotize the desperate slow motionlight/Wash away into the rain

I heard this described as the "toilet seat logo". Other than making sure it's down for books like Batgirl, Batwoman, and Wonder Woman, I can't think of anything good about it.

Just to remind us that when we're using public toilets DC Comics are always there for our protection. But Kinney National Services included a cleaning company--so it all makes sense.

I dont particularly like it but I can see how they might if they see a significant part of their future being digital, then it would pave the way for an animated logo.

Not recognizing Colossus isn't too bad Kurt, but what I couldn't recognize (without doing a double take) was that Batman comic... if the current powers that be at DC wanted to make a break with the past with that reboot, they sure succeeded IMO.

I was going to say I like it. The colouring is adequate, the logo suggests a page being turned.

But then I saw what it looked like on the thumbnail covers, and thought the 'D' and the 'C' are blurring together. It's like you're looking at one letter that can't decide which letter it wants to be. The Doctor Who 'Tardis'-logo is a far cry better.
Maybe it looks better on the shelf in the stores, when you're standing closer to it. Anyway, cover art is more important for drawing attention to the comic than the company logo is.

... does anyone here (besides me) find that this new logo sucks as far as being effective in distinguishing DC's comics from some of the other publishers?

I mean, I just happened to look down the row of comics that are displayed on the main CBR page the other day and honestly, it actually took me a few moments to distinguish who's titles were who's.

I dunno... perhaps it's the logo... or perhaps all the comics are starting to look the same.

    Some past logos for comparison...

Nice one , in which tool you design this, i know it is too late to ask you but i have to make such kind of logo, so you please help me if you read it.

Yes, the new logo doesn't really say DC to me, so they have to "explain" it below.

Having said that, none of the logos prior to the DC bullet are particularly compelling. They're just sort of there. The bullet is iconic. If they felt compelled to replace it, the swoosh was pretty nice. They should have stuck with it.

Unfortunately, Wolverine escaped to the U.S. with the X-Men. Soon after this stunning debacle, Trudeau's Liberal Party would go down to defeat in the May 1979 election.

I understood what they were going for with the swoosh star logo and it being on there for animation. I actually thought it worked really well in animated features. This new logo just plain sucks. I don't get that it's peeling back the D to show the C inside, which is like the characters taking off their masks to reveal their secret identities. So, DC Comics is now a secret identity? Yeah, DC could have taken those dollars it gave to have someone create that ugly logo and just tossed each dollar out the window. It would have been money better spent.

I've said it before elsewhere but I hate the new DC logo. I can see why they chose it and thought it was a good design but hindsight is a wonderful thing and I think it looks terrible.
