    Default DC Comics New Logo

I haven't been paying all that much attention to what's been going on with new comics lately... in fact, I haven't even been over to the main CBR page all that much either. So it was a bit of a surprise to me to notice that DC changed their logo to this...

... does anyone here (besides me) find that this new logo sucks as far as being effective in distinguishing DC's comics from some of the other publishers?

I mean, I just happened to look down the row of comics that are displayed on the main CBR page the other day and honestly, it actually took me a few moments to distinguish who's titles were who's.

I dunno... perhaps it's the logo... or perhaps all the comics are starting to look the same.

    Some past logos for comparison...

For a print logo it's awful, but I think the thought process was leaning towards other media. Animated, the D peels off to reveal the C. It also varies based on what property is being represented. It includes a bat symbol on Batman media, a Superman shield for Supes stuff, the smiley face for Watchmen etc. That said, it still sucks. It is just slightly less sucky in animated form than in print form.

As far as I can tell, they have yet to put a character variation on any of the books. Just the same generic logo over and over. It is not a very good look on the books.

I'm not remotely impressed, and it's not because I'm resistant to change. I really like the "swoosh" for its sense of motion and excitement. This new logo just sits there and says nothing to me about what DC or its products are about.

I could see them changing their logo for something that was more suggestive of comics--but this one looks like they are running away from any association with comics. If you didn't know it was for comic books (and it didn't say DC Comics below it), would you know that this was a logo for a comic book publisher or entertainment company? It's very generic.

I heartily agree with MRP: it's unbelievably awful as a print logo - looks even worse on actual comics than it did as a stand-alone image when it was first launched. With no animation, it just doesn't read as "DC" - just looks like a sticker being pulled off a "C".

I don't mind it. It looks like a corporate logo for a maker of corporate comics.

The bullet logo was the best one.

Not exactly a mind blowing design. I just like that I can quickly see that this is a modern comic and not something from a few years ago. Each logo is a different era, or better yet a company should put the year of publication on the cover.

I'd rather not be reminded of the passage of time. I have a mirror for that.

I'm not a big fan of it at all. I was just listening to an older "I Sell Comics!" podcast (which I love) where they discuss how awful it is. It looks like it belongs after a cartoon.

The new logo is just the first in a long list of things that suck about DC nowadays. My favorite logo is the Line of DC Superstars one.

Ya know, you might be on to something there Gumdrop and I don't think it's just the logo... I don't even think it's a DC problem.

I mean, take a look at some of these covers...

... I'm sure you've heard the phrase "direct to video." Well I dunno about you, but these all seem to scream "direct to dollar bin" to me.

Can't put my finger on exactly why, all the artists seem technically competent, yet there is something lacking... something oddly generic about them... and definitely nothing compelling enough about them for me to consider buying them.

Is that supposed to be Colossus duking it out with Spidey? He looks like an overinflated toy zeppelin.

He's taken on the Juggernauts powers since Fear Itself - he even wears the helmet!
