Default Vintage Canadian Wonder Woman Comic??

    To the experts on here...

Anyone give me some info on this comic? The picture is poor but it looks like it says something about being printed in Canada at the top. I cannot seem to find it. Also, there is a pic of a beat up Batman #69. A guy sent me these, saying he has around 2400 comics and he is looking at getting $12-15 a piece for the lot or sell some individuals for around that much. I really want to scoop these up at a price like that if possible!

It's just the golden-age Canadian variant of Wonder Woman 34....I'd thumb you in the eye and make a grab for it if I could make fast getaways these days

    Thanks!

Well I emailed him...I just hope he still has it. Wonder Woman not really my thing. If you are interested or know someone else who is, I'd be willing to "trade" or work something out. Would rather let someone who really wants it have it. I will get back on whether or not the guy takes my offer...

According to the GCD this was published by Simcoe Publishing and Distribution circa late spring 1949. However, the GCD has no info on the inside contents. During the war, American comics were kept out of Canada because of trade restrictions. After the war, American comics were allowed in but they had to be published by a Canadian company. Some of these comics were virtually the same as their American counterparts, but not always. So it's hard to say just what's in that Canadian Wonder Woman 34. It might be identical--but with Canadian advertising--or it could be completely different except for the cover.

I have a Canadian issue of Plastic Man which is similar to the American version, but because the Canadian comic has much less pages wherever story pages are missing there's a recap oddly stamped onto the page describing in very few words what supposedly happened on the missing pages.

If you do get the comic at least you can provide information to the GCD on this issue.

I'm just getting into Wonder Woman stuff, so I might be interested in trading for this if you end up getting it. Just drop me a PM if so and we can maybe work something out.

As far as Canadian versions go, usually they are worth a little bit less because as Ear mentions, they usually have fewer pages. Plus, most Canadian versions are printed in black and white instead of color. For instance, I have a Canadian edition of Boy Comics #52 which is 36 pages long instead of 52 pages long, all in black and white, so there's one entire story missing from it. Still, they're still golden age comics and that's always cool.

That Batman has a cool Catwoman story in it.

Well I'm not getting my hopes up too much but darn I hope he answers back. His original ad said he had 2400 comics between 1930 and 1960 and wanted $12-15 per comic. That was an ad he placed couple weeks ago. Yesterday, he posted a new one with these two comics (as well as Action Comics 124, Batman 126, X-Men 16, TOS #58, 93 and Showcase #54). The corner looks chewed off the Batman #69, the Action Comic looks nice and ditto for both TOS comics which are the two I would want to keep, along with the X-Men. The rest I'd be up for trading. I offered him $100-150 for those 8, asked him for some better pics and that my offer would depen on how nice they actually are.

Would be nice to contribute to comic database and see what that Wonder Woman variant is like though...

No luck. I hate people and their terrible communication skills. Guy emails me back and writes "1000". I replied, is that how much you want for these 10, or for your entire collection? Nothing

    Moving on...sigh.

I've got a Canadian copy of Batman 55 which has replaced one of the three Batman stories with a Vigilante tale. However, it does retain the Joker cover story pencilled by Dick Sprang which hasn't been reprinted anywhere so I can't complain too much. I also have a Canadian edition of Batman 56 which has switched a Penguin story with a Captain Compass one. I could never figure out why these changes were made but the fact that each replacement tale is shorter than each of the the two remaining ones fits your info perfectly. All stories are in color though. It's funny to think that Canadian kids probably didn't even realise they were being hoodwinked.

I think it's like how the Beatles albums were different in North America vs. Britain--and I think a few Canadian releases were different from the American ones, too. The U.K. releases had more songs on them. By removing some songs, the North American record company could take those tracks and put them onto another LP, thus producing more albums to sell. During the height of Beatlemania that made some record mogul very rich (but not the Fab Four).
