Any great character-driven indies?

I'm brand new to indies. I only read Marvel, but I think it's time to expand my titles to other companies. Strong, developing characters are a must. I'd prefer something not too grounded, meaning I'd like some action in it. I don't want something silly, though. If it helps, here's what I read from Marvel:

Daredevil
Fantastic Four/FF
Journey into Mystery
Punisher
Uncanny X-force
Winter Solider

So, as you can see, I read some darker titles that are also fantastical. They also all have a strong focus on its characters. So, anything like these? I'm a big fan of Remender, so I'm going to be looking into Fear Agent. I've also read Nightly News and loved it. So, any suggestions?
