I don't think that trying something different is inherently wrong. I also don't think all approaches are created equal for all folks. Like you said, it's not going to cater to everyone's taste - thus, some may voice objections to some or all of it.
If I may, what 'general consensus' are you refering to?

Chiarello? lol. Can we just call them Chia?
Yeah, they've received a lot of positive press, reviews, word of mouth and such. I'm wondering how long people will stick around though, esp, during Marvel's latest event.

Wot does the one have to do with the other?
As another poster intimated...some may not like it, but would be willing to stick it through just to see how it "ends" because it is so very interesting.
And of course, you will get a small contingent who rile up with pitch forks and burning brands everytime but still purchase the bloody thing every month.
And then there are those like myself, who genuinely like and are interested in wot Chiarello is doing with these characters and will stay for the long haul...even through Akins' art.![]()

Budget. I'm all for getting both (if that's what people want and can afford it). But, in watching sales for comics over the years, it seems that events tend to suck up cash. So, for some, somthing's gotta give. And what usually gives is sales for the mid-to-lower sellers. I'd like to see people stick around (if they want to), but I also won't be surrpised if some drop it for no other reason than to pick up AvX and it's tie-ins.
