It's fiction. They don't have to be so die-hard on the ancient culture, do they? Or was that just a choice by the author, a choice he could have made differently?

They're also immortal, no? So no death to old age and disease, right? And if they are so cut off from the world, no one from outside is attacking them, right?

But then, if they are so cut off, how do they find these men?

So, basically it has to be this way because the author created a world where it has to be this way? So that's the only way? Because the author couldn't have come up with a world where it didn't have to be this way?

For the author to tell his story, this had to happen, so...yes? He could have done it differently, but then the story would be different.

So, you'd never judge me killing someone as long as I thought it sounded like a good idea at the time? It's all a-ok to you?

You may not be alone, but your logical inconsistency is a false illusion that doesn't have to exist. A little know director by the name George Lucas managed to sell a few movie tickets based around warriors (imperfect, too) that fight for peace. It's a big theme in many kung-fu movies, too. In fact, in our imperfect world, the UN sends peace keepers, soldiers with guns, to areas to try and promote peace (although, they aren't the most effective). It really isn't such a foreign concept.

And yet the Amazons dont ever leave the island to help out, share their technology or whatever.

No, you just would have liked it better. It's a dark story. Injecting some idyllic lightheartedness, particularly at such a crucial character moment, would have thrown the whole thing off.

the vikings were actually a well cultured civilization and provided the final injection of Germanic culture Western Europe needed to thrive. Indeed they were far more civilized than the barbarous Franks under Charles the 'Great'

No, you just would have liked it better. It's a dark story. Injecting some idyllic lightheartedness, particularly at such a crucial character moment, would have thrown the whole thing off.

a) Who said WW has to be written dark? and b) I never said they had to inject some idyllic lightheartedness. It can and has succeeded without being a "horror" story. In short, I want to throw this whole thing off. JK (mostly).

Honest question: Would it really throw the whole thing off?

Imagine this story without that lil' tidbit from Hephy - or imagine that Hephy's story is mostly false - does that really ruin your enjoyment of this story?

its actual the other way around; Germans are actually Scandinavian. the earliest recorded inhabitants of Germany were actually celtic, and slowly they were encroached upon during later Roman times, replacing them completely.

Could. I'm all for Thomas Wayne as the real murderer of Martha. He's way too squeeky clean. And yet, people still find Superman and Batman interesting without digging up dirt in their parents' closets? How can that be?
