Default Value Of Captain Britain UK Full Run?

Hey, I don't know if this is the correct forum to post in, but I thought I'd start here. I was wondering if anyone had any idea wha the value of a full run of Captain Britain 1-39 from the UK would be worth. I've only ever seen one complete set sell on ebay, and it went for like $2200!!! Is this a realistic price, or some sort of ebay shenanigans? They don't guide for all that much individually, but are very hard to find as a full run, especially in the U.S., so I was wondering if that created this high price.

    Your thoughts?

not very much unfortunately. over here in UK, youd look to get around 1 an issue at best on ebay. Unless there is a certain issue or two that have stupid prices due to 1st appearances which im not aware of, but otherwise 1. the run has been reprinted now in trade so there will be even less demand. Even at mycomicshop.com, i see issues going for around $2.50 each. sorry.

Yeah, I didn't think it was worth the $2200, I was just shocked to see it go for so high a price! I wonder what was going on with that auction?

On a side note, I've always been interested in collecting a full set of all the Captain Britain UK appearances, but they're very difficult (almost impossible) to find over here as a complete set. For those people that live in the UK - does anyone know of a reputable shop that would be likely to have all these issues (The Daredevils, The Mighty World Of Marvel, etc)?

i dont think any shop would be all that interested..most comic shops turn their noses up at back issues, unless theyre silver age or older or especially collectable. if youre in US, why not try and see what mycomicshop.com would offer you for them? theyre generally pretty decent with their offers. of course if the comics arent worth that much to start with..but I think those The Daredevils issues would be the most valuable of them all personally.

As far as I know, the only issue of the original Captain Britain comic that is worth anything is #8, which is the first appearance of Betsy Braddock, aka Psylocke. The other issues aren't too easy to find, but when you do find them they don't cost much. $2200 is preposterous.
At last, Boy Comics finally gets its own website!

That sucks, I thought I'd possibly be able to put a set together from the UK. Mycomicshop has never had a complete set of this series; they only have like 10 of the issues from the 1st series, and don't have any of the other appearances (Daredevils, etc).

FYI, here's the auction for the Captain Britain 1-39 that sold for $2200!

oh i thought you wanted to sell them to a shop. i dont know any shops that would have them over here. Your best bet to acquire them would be to wait for a set to come up on ebay. You probably wouldnt be waiting all that long, Ive seen them on there before.

Nah, I wasn't looking to sell, but to buy the set. I've never seen a full run of Daredevils 1-11 on ebay before, just random issues of the main Captain Britain series. I was thinking maybe in the Uk this stuff is pretty common in shops, so if I could find a store that had lots of back issues I could save the time having to hunt for them here.

you could try checking silveracrecomics.com or qscomics.com, but theyd probably be more expensive than on ebay

i would save a search for "Daredevils 1 11" on ebay. that way youd be notified if an item listed matched your search. its easier than constantly checking. theyd defiantely been on there before and will come up again eventually.

comic shops in general are pretty rare in the UK, there are usually only one or two in large cities. comic shops carrying a wide selection of back issues are non-existent or at least very rare. your best bet to find them "in the wild" over here would be to frequent the comic markets and conventions. there is a comic mart organised by Golden Orbit which travels around all the main cities in UK (Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle etc) but they charge 2 to even go in, and then the sellers charge a lot for the back issues as well. Ebay is definately the best way to go.

Thanks, I'll check those out. I've had a saved search for that series for almost a year, but nothing ever showed up. None of the british-only series ever really made it over here. Of the dozens of shops I've been into I think I've only ever seen a handful of the issues from the main series, and none of the other series he appeared in. I guess I'll just go with ebay and be patient.

You might want to give 30th Century Comics in London a go. They specialise in vintage comics (US and UK) and are extremely friendly and helpful. I get my monthly comics there.
