Its the only bat book that wont be connected with the Night of Owl event
which is very nice since its allowing itself to tell its story

but this is a character that could very easily move beyond one book
right now in Batwoman she is working (kind of unwillingly) on the organization of DEO(probably the coolest in the DCU) along with such great characters like Cameron Chase and Mr Bones

and then we have Birds of Prey, which consist of Katana, Black Canary, Poison Ivy and Starling all who got no problem on using lethal force and then batgirl

dont you think that Batwoman would had fit much better here?

she could still work for DEO and work with BoP, maybe as a spy for a while, or maybe even BoP could join DEO and function as a unit
Even though i like her more than Batgirl, i dont think either of them should be in Birds of Prey. Birds are supposed to be outlaws, fugitives, girls with issues with the law. Batwoman doesnt, especially now that she's in the DEO.

Also, the Birds dont wear mask (except Katana), so seeing someone with a bat cowl in the team is quite jarring. Batgirl needs to GTFO.

    No.

Batwoman doesn't fit. I can see her as a guest star (and I'm still wondering why Batwoman hasn't appeared in any other Bat book after the reboot) but she is a bat. Bats don't kill and this is a team of anti-heroes that has no problems with getting their hands dirty.

I don't want Batgirl in the team either, for the reason stated above and because she's too green for the team.

While Batwoman is just very stoic, cool, yet stoic. Not sure what she'd bring besides her cold demeanor. Justice League Dark though...
Barbara obviously has the history in terms of association with this specific name brand, even if she's not the best fit with how the Birds are being currently depicted as a team. Also true that Batwoman so far has shown she really does like to fly solo. I have said in the past though that I think she could fit in Justice League Dark (after all half of them hate each other because they all prefer to be loners, her similar tendencies in her alter-ego would fit right in).

This is both Williams and Rucka's fault, it has been their mutual decision so far to keep this character isolated so much she may as well be in a Vertigo book of her own tiny universe. And I don't see Williams changing course from this desire to maintain an isoloated universe (he must think it will be more appealing to the future TPB's). I say again I think Batwoman would be a good fit for a bat-character in JLD.

You bring up an interesting point that I'd really like to see followed up by the book, and that is if for some reason for two issues Black Canary was laid up or MIA would the other three openly revolt to working with the more level headed and more strictly moral coded Batgirl? That would be good dramatic tension.

...But why would they "revolt" to follow Barbara? It's not like the rest of the members are strictly moral themselves and all of them are fairly independent. Not like Canary has been forcing them to be more ambiguous regarding killing and the like and need Batgirl to come and show them the error of their ways. I think they would more likely to just dissolve or have Starling take some command than jump to follow Babs. In the middle of a crisis situation where Black Canary was taken out I could see Barbara giving out some commands but other than that... Seriously, she has her own book, and while I don't mind her in BOP (though she does need more reason for why she's there) and her relationship with the other birds needs to be more developed, she really doesn't need the spotlight in BOP.

the team, as i said before is laizze-faire and is very Daoist in how it operates. BC is the 'leader' only in name and it is primarily her character that holds the team.

Want to know the kicker? I am gay and even though I gave her a fair shot, still I hate Batwoman. I am in 100% favor of "fridging" crummy characters -- male or female -- and IMHO, Batwoman is about as crummy as characters come. All she's ever had going for her is pretty art.

    So what?

I'm gay too, does that mean my opinion is more valid that the opinion of straight people?

minasithil is correct, we don't need the only gay bat to be fridged. Especially because that would make Babs the only female member of the bat family.

I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to read a Swierczyinski's Batwoman. Still, I think Batgirl and Batwoman should stay away from BoP. In any case, Huntress fits better I think.

Incorrect. Helena Wayne, aka The Huntress, formerly Robin, is the daughter of E2 Batman and next month will be headlining World's Finest.

Which would make Babs the only female bat of the main universe.

And that's great. Two female bats against... how many bat boys again? I lost count.

Again incorrect. Huntress has lived in the main DC universe for the past 5 yrs Post-Flashpoint time, she is now just as much a part of it as her previous continuity on E2.

She wasn't born in the main universe.

Nitpicks aside, that would be two female bats. Guess that's too many boobs for the bat family. Quick! Kill Batwoman!

Or we could fridge Babs or Helena. But I guess some people would not like that.

I voted no on this one as well. Kate simply doesn't fit with this team or any team for that matter. Personally, I think the team is fine as it is and I don't even think it needs Batgirl on it either.
