McKelvie's art is perfect for this book.
The only thing that would make it better is Jen replacing Betty...
Dear people who read Defenders: Should I, having only read issue #1 and not liking it, start buying this book at issue #7? Has the quality improved greatly since the first issue?
Currently recommending: Daredevil, Mudman ( it's back!), Hawkguy, and FF. Can't miss!
It depends on what kind of books you like. I thought Defenders #4 was AWESOME! But it was not a slugfest. It was some great character work, on Dr. Strange especially.
McKelvie wasn't the first person I would have thought of for the Defenders, but now, the idea is growing on me. I'm very much looking forward to seeing his Namor.![]()

I picked up Michael Lark's issue because I like his art. I've tried to actually read it about 4 times now but It loses my interest real quick. I'll probably give it another try with this new artist on an issue focusing on Iron Fist, but I'm not expecting much.
Does anyone know if Nick Fury is still joining the team? Early solicitations said he would join by the 2nd arc, is that right?
Awesome, McKelvie's art is great!
I actually like this book by Fraction.
I love, love, love how they're including this older stuff from Kirby's Black Panther.

I know I'm 2000 and late, but what happened to the Dodsons? Not that I'm complaining, I love me some Jamie, but I was confused about their sudden departure.
There are four stages of matter. Solid. Liquid. Gas & Don't. It's science.
I am a male. Deal with it.
Well, they're set to draw an issue of Avenging Spider-Man, but beyond that, my sneaking suspicion is that they've been moved off to something upcoming, probably one of the things they're lining up post-AVX.
But yeah, if the replacement, McKelvie, weren't so awesome, I'd be kind of bummed as well.
Right, no knock against McKelvie, but I was wondering as well. All of the lead-up promo interviews here at CBR tied the Dodsons tightly to the book, going so far as to acknowledge they wouldn't be doing 12 issues a year. The whole set-up of doing shorter arcs and having one-shots by fill-in artists was to accomodate the Dodsons and that didn't work. I wish this would have been acknowledged in the interview.
Wow, no offense to McKelvie, but why not just announce, "Defenders has been cancelled." This artist is by no means a superstar yet, and a property like Defenders cannot stay afloat w/o a big-name artist drawing in the fans. Maybe if they re-brand it "The Defending Avengers," it might have a chance.
Or maybe this is the series that make McKelvie a superstar? (But I still think McKelvie is still a well enough known name to keep the book going, especially with another Phonogram volume coming up).
