awesome stuff Nick!
I really enjoyed issue #2 and the new characters it established. For a new comic book reader who has been trying out a ton of stuff in the last year, this series is right on top.

Gimme gimme shock treatment.
I'm actually learning about history from this comic. Every so often I wikipedia something that happens in it just to find out which parts are fictional. I honestly hadn't ever heard of Wernher von Braun or Project Paperclip. Am I the only one? It turns out von Braun really was a Nazi and the U.S. government expunged his Nazi record and gave him a fake employment history. NASA scientists have said they never would have gotten to the moon without him.
What do you guys think is being referred to at the end of issue to with "And then, ten years after that, he took us even further."
The first moon orbit was in 1968, but the first to reach the moon was 1969. What happened in 1978 or 1979?
Thanks Ants!!!
Trallis...yeah Hickman really squeezes the juice out of the research. Check out the first photo of Von Braun when we got him...
Could that cast be hiding a robot arm??? I don't know :)
The more research I do the more nuggets of things I find Jonathan pulling from...its crazy...hes a nut.
Glad you guys are digging it. Issue 3 is so freaking fun and cool and crazy...takes everything to a new level.
Thanks Nick for sharing all these goodies.
I am really digging this series. Hickman himself is a mad genius - and we love it! I am impressed with his research and the fact that he sends thousands of loyal readers to their computers on Wednesdays doing their own research and discovering the truth and mysteries behind some of these real world supermen.
Oh yeah....and the art is absolutely gorgeous. Perfect fit for the story being told.
It makes me wonder what else he has up his sleeve in terms of the history involved. It is a really great book, in a sea of bad ones.
I thought issue three was the best of series. It seemed denser and more compact that most of Hickman's writing and really moved the story forward. Also the characters acted less like complete bastards and more like amoral scientists who have lost perspective. It was also interesting that the flashback with General Groves used the same red/blue motif that we saw with Oppenheimer in issue 1.
The only thing that bugged me was having the atom bomb dropped immediately after Truman was sworn in. It makes the storyline easier but the whole concept for the story is that its an alternative reality where the Manhattan Project continued on. Chopping up history like that is pretty lazy, IMO.
Now I'm excited to see what Hickman does with the free masons. I've always thought all their secrecy was their way to hide the fact that they really have no power at all, and that there's nothing really cool or interesting about them.
I've read the previews and I've liked them, but Im going to wait for the trade, I think that fits better for hickmans pacing, that and I don't want to pay $3.50 for a single issue.
I agree that issue 3 is the best of the series so far. I still wanna know whats up with Einstein and his statue monolith thing. I bet it holds the secrets of the universe or something.

Isaiah- Issue 4 is all about Einstein ...and the monolith makes an appearance too. I'm rounding out the art for the issue now...it's freaking cool.
I thought issue 3 was the best so far too...my favorite thing I've ever worked on. Me and Jonathan and Jordie (AMAZING colorista) and Rus Wooton (Letterist) seem to have aligned in that issue.
I'll post some early Issue 4 pics soon...until Hickman calls and yells at me :)

Awesome! Can't wait for issue 4 then. Einstein is my favorite character so far just because he is so quiet and mysterious. Its also fun to take what we know of him in real life and see how it is flipped in this book.
Good job on the art Nick, its looking great! looking forward to the issue 4 pics. :)
