I loved the first issue of this book! The best number one this year imo. Tomorrow issue 2 comes out so make sure you go and pick up a copy early before it sells out again! Here a picture of issue #2's cover.

    It's a wick awesome series!

But seriously, first issue caught me by surprise, I did not expect that many different Oppenheimers and a portal that opens upon and robot samurais come out, Fucking brilliant.

Just got done reading issue 2, TWICE! This book is great. I like how they seem to be changing focus on the different scientists instead of just sticking to Oppenheimer.

Maybe its just because I've read a lot of Richard Feynman's work and have great respect for him as a scientist and person but Hickman's shtick of taking a historical figure and turning them into a deranged sociopath is very tiresome. The book itself was well written and drawn but Feynman's voice is a disgusting caricature of what comes through in his lectures and writings.

I agree with Roland. When the Nazi stuff comes in...there isn't enough built up to make it work I think. It's sort of just there as a blind villain to be hated. Meh. This issue really turned me off from the series. The pacing seems wonky too.

I think the Nazi stuff is just background for the introduction to "Project Paperclip" and the Von Braun character. The pacing may just seem off because these two issues are just introducing us to the cast of what looks like an ensamble cast. We don't really know what the plot is going to turn out to be. Luckily, though, the characters and set up have been strong enough to keep me interested. I'm going to hold off on giving the series a verdict until we get a better shape of the plot, but I've been enjoying the character work and ideas so far.

As far as rating single issues I think the pacing is wacky, but you might be right about it making more sense in a trade paperback. I'm sick of these comics that are written for the trade. If someone spends 4 dollars on a comic they should expect a fulfilling and well paced 20 pages! I reviewed the book at my site in my signature if you want to take a peak.

I don't think this will be a better in trade kind of book. If you look at the first issue, that was great! This 2nd issue I agree the pacing was a lil' off but it really was a setup issue to show off Feynman and Von Braun. I think future issues will be better paced like the first issue. I don't know, I think this comic is a lot of fun!

The first one was much better than the second, I'll give you that, but I am still kind of engaged in the story just based off of the awesomeness of the first. I hope good things come of this series. I am also inclined to agree with you on the cliche Nazi enemies. I would love to see soemthing completely new.

It's an interesting book, I'm not sure how long I'll stick with it as with two issues in I'm not even really sure what its about. I've enjoyed the different scientists though, I laughed out loud when the atomic skull guy was revealed to be Doctor harry Daghlian...the scientist who accidentally irradiated himself while working on the Manhattan project. I felt a little bad about laughing afterwards as the guy died after that, but still it was a fairly clever deception.

Don't get me wrong, I am really enjoying this book and its potential. BUT, your complaint is the same thing that bothers me. Doesn't it bother any one that Hickman is completely, fictionally of course, trashing some pretty significant historical figures?

I am going to stay with this book, but yeah, it bugs me that he is trashing every one....at least he's fair about it. I can totally hear his response, "It's a comic book...get over it." But, come on I know he want his work to be taken seriously on some level.
If the shoe fits: "a crankly old man standing just on the edge of a crowd gathered for a concert and stamping his feet yelling at the crowd to stop having fun, that they don't know what fun is."

I'm definitely going to keep reading. Most comics take a good 3 or 4 issues to get a bead on the story. I was just disappointed with the huge difference in pacing from issue 1 and 2. There was so much more energy in issue #1.

This is an alternate history book. So its a world far different from are own and part of the fun of this comic is seeing the differences. I also don't think these characters are being "trashed", their comic selves are pretty bad-ass! Plus in real life they are responsible for creating one of the most powerful weapons man has ever seen. So I don't really think of them as "good" or "heroes" anyways.
