1 billion in two weeks...it has beat it's numbers in the same time frame. Simpy put, it's the biggest and best selling Marvel property ATM.

Cap, Thor , IM 2 and even Hulk were all good and fun movies, not perfect...but they did their job... X3 was horrid. X1 was ok. X2 and First class were good. wolverine Sucked. The Anime sucked W&TXM was great. The last X video game was beyond bad...hardly any toys..I mean it is what it is. Avengers is what's being talked about...

And your opinion about First Class and Avengers is your own...I disagee...and that still doesn't matter to the point of this thread. The Avengers dispite your opinion on parts of the movies is FAR bigger. I thought 1st class was great...just not as epic as Avengers. And that's how most folks feel...

The Avengers need to stay popular for about a decade before you could say that they are bigger then the X-Men.

I agree. Only time will tell which franchise is stronger.

I really wish people didn't feel this need to compare Avengers to X Men - I absolutely hated X3 but the first two films were great. Avengers is great. I wish that the same company owned both franchises because it'd be terrific to see an Avengers/X men team up (minus Halle Berry). And let's face it, if it wasn't for the success of the original X Men movies there would be no Spiderman, no Iron Man, No Thor or Captain America - and certainly no Avengers. X Men started them all.

Not so much theatrically. Blade didn't do so hot. It got a sequel because the DVDs sold through the roof, back at the dawn of that format.

Uh yeah it did , made 70 million in the us and 132 world wide. It was marvel's first successful movie and convinced studios to take a chance on bigger budgeted movies like X-Men.

After seeing the Avengers movie and reading the recent comics, I really do get the sense that the Avengers have surpassed the X-men. Because of the movies, the Avengers are now far more ingrained in the public consciousness compared to the X-men. After the craptastic movies they made with X3 and Wolverine Origins, even a good movie like X-men First Class couldn't really light the box office on fire like the Avengers have. In addition, I think the Avengers in the comics is really starting to pick up while the X-men have been divided in Schism and painted as a more rogue element with AvX. I don't know if this is intentional. We're all just fans here and we really don't know what Marvel's plan is here, but I think it's reasonable to conclude that the success of the Avengers movies will lead them to push the Avengers more than the X-men moving forward.

The Avengers are bigger in pop culture than the X-men have ever been.

There's only one (1) relevant superhero team and its the Avengers.

Yeah, i said it..now come at me!

Becoming less popular in pop culture takes some pressure off of the X-corner of the Marvel U. That ought to mean something positive for the quality of those comics. I think the Bendis Avengers era has already pushed the comics in that direction and the positive effects are being felt already.

Movies that came out the same year that made more money than Blade.

    Six Days Seven Nights.
    You've Got Mail.
    The Wedding Singer.
    The Rugrats Movie.

Blade did OK, but it was still the 29th biggest domestic movie of 1998. Compare that to X-Men two years later, which was the 8th biggest movie of the year and clocked in over 150 mil domestic.
