This generation has new heroes...and this movie IS superior to all the X movies and Toons. That's the truth..so in this regard they have it right.

The Avengers is Disney's Cash cow now...
I think the contribution the X-Men made to the Marvel film history shouldn't be discounted. It's true, the X-Men films are lacking that certain something that the Avengers movie enjoyed, the first film was still a major accomplishment in and of itself. Granted it didn't have the same budget the Avengers had and had to make do with less, I do think it managed to help break the glass ceiling that was set for Marvel properties and showed that comic book movies could be intelligent and exciting. It didn't have the scale that the Avengers film had, but it did set the bar for character centric storytelling and showing how successfully translate a decades old property onto the big screen, balancing making changes with staying true to the core concept.

Avengers might be the big news now, but I don't think we'd be in the same place if it wasn't for the X-Men.

I think Aldis Hodge from Leverage would probably be a good Luke Cage.

The only thing is those films had nothing to do with Marvel Studios. The Glass ceiling was broken by Blade for Marvel Studios, then Ironman and Disney backing them for this movie. Sure, you can never discount them and what they did for the genre. The Avengers just took it to another level.

And now it's up to the X-Men to take it to the next level again. I think the Avengers raised the bar. But I also think that the X-Men are capable of clearing it.

Not with Sony at the reigns. The biggest lesson I've learned from Marvel producing its own films is that it takes a comic company to make a comic movie.

Sony owns the rights to Spiderman. Fox owns X-Men.

I agree. The Amazing Spiderman looks like it will be leagues better than its first incarnations.

I thought I had read once that it was 5 years. They have to keep making movies to continue owning the rights.

Even if Marvel Studios doesn't give them their own film it would be cool if they could use them in other movies, especially a rebooted Doom.

Maybe time for Marvel to give that Michael Chabon pitch for an FF movie some serious (re)consideration...

If they really do want to hang onto those rights, something cheap and direct to DVD will be pumped out in due time.

Yes they do, Fox has Josh Trank lined up to do a new Fantastic Four movie. There's also talk that they've got David Slade for their new Daredevil movie.
