He did do a lot of movies.
Here's Wikipedia's list of all the movies he's been in.
The only problem is that though he was as good in them as he was in Superman, the poor bastard was so badly typecast that he never really got a good shot at another big role.

His predecessor, George Reeves, had the same problem. He was never able to get taken seriously once everyone thought of him as Superman.
    It sucked for him.

Especially seeing as Superman was portrayed so expertly that I don't think he's even been as believable before or since.

In fact, Reeve is really the only thing I liked about those movies.

One thing I appreciated about Reeve is how he still respected the character and took seriously his role as a steward of the Superman legacy, despite however he may have been typecast for playing him.

Which is why he turned down movies like American Gigolo, The Bounty, Urban Cowboy, Lethal Weapon, Romancing the Stone, Pretty Woman (although he claimed rejection over that one), An Officer and a Gentleman, and The Running Man, to name but a few....

The "poor bastard" had plenty of good shots at other big roles. His problem wasn't typecasting, it was bad career choices, and he even admitted it just prior to his accident. Richard Gere has even said that he owes his career to Reeve refusing so many of the roles that made Gere a star. The blame for Reeve's career fizzling has nothing to do with Superman and everything to do with his own poor judgment.

Even then, IIRC, he had quite a few roles after Superman. Superman is just what he'll always be known for. I guess it's typecasting to an extent, but it definitely didn't hurt his career.

I don't think it was typecasting at all. Neither did he, by his own admission. He talked about how Superman had given him countless opportunities, even at the time when he was turning down big movies left and right. Even after his career faltered and he was prepping for a mid-'90s comeback, he still felt that Superman opened up a lot of doors for him, regardless of whether or not he took advantage of that.

I think his association with Superman boils down to it being the biggest thing he ever did. Had he taken movies like American Gigolo and Romancing the Stone and what-not, Superman would simply have been for him what Saturday Night Fever and Grease are to John Travolta -- early success in a long, rich career rather than being the only really noteworthy thing on his resume. Things would have been very different, I'd imagine.

Reeve was awesome. Reeve made it possible to take someone seriously while they're wearing that costume and have that spitcurl. Theres zero pretentiousness both in the look, the performance and even the rest of the script (well, except for the weird spoken word thing). Whereas I look at the new suit and all I see is "Hey guys! Remember me? I'm Superman! I used to be cool once!" Its like an old guy dropping 90s slang.

One of my favorite scenes. Though I'm still looking for a pic of Superman crushing General Zod's hand. That is one of my all time favorite movie scenes. What I loved about Reeve's performance was that his Superman was good and pure, but in no way a pushover. His Superman could be pretty badass.

This was as close as I could get.
