I started reading the X-Men in the mid 90's, just before Gen X was launched. So I voted for that Emma. I liked her because she was a self-made higly driven woman who lived by her own terms. While she certainly had values, she wasn't above getting her hands dirty if circumstances called for it. She's smart, feminine, pragmatic and unsentimental. She had demons and definetly not a people person but she still tried to do the write thing. She had a razzor sharp tongue which she used normally a) to keep people at bay and from getting hurt or b) to bring order.

I don't know people can say this. As far as I'm concerned Morrison basically wrote her as an overgrown bitchy high school girl and a home-wrecking skank. Watching Emma throw herself at Cyclops made me want to vomit. The old Emma would never have debased herself like that for such a looser. Morisson is the reason she's basically been reduced to the current mess she is today.

Never read New Mutants, but Gen X is the only one I read that actually showed her teach, the others let that interest justify her actions whilst never actually showcasing it.

In my salad days when i'd get particularly wasted on benzodiazepines, i'd watch that Joyce Meyer Ministries show at 4 am and have a utter and complete ball. She's a massive bellend.

*giggle* That dollarstore bleach blonde is nowhere near as beautiful, smart or cunning as Jean Grey.

Plus Jean is bustier, Emma got enhancements right after the DPS.

Emma needs to sleep around again and have fun, her being in a relationship for this long has really dampen her 'spirit'. She needs to take over the Hellfire club from those bratty brats or something.

I know, but I started reading Marvel in French magazines with several titles in one. In this case, Special Strange 45 of July 1986. The UXM issues in it were 172 and 173.

This (minus the loser part, unless you mean that's how she would see him) + the famous last page by Igor Kordey.

I have a certain order. My favorite was Gen X Emma. At least the first 40 issues. or so. Never bought the remaining issues so I can't vouch on how she's portrayed in them.. Then my next favorite incarnation of her was the New Mutants version when she was a villain. Her UXM appearances were kinda generic, but her New Mutants appearances were superb. She was an excellent adversary and definitely one of the best female villains. Claremont wrote her really well during this period. The arc of New Mutants where they were dealing with the ramifications of the Secret War ( I believe, can't really remember) was great. I still love that conversation she had with Magneto where he questioned her intentions. Then I liked XXM era Emma Frost as well as Reload Emma. She was bitchy but not over the top. She didn't feel like a caricature.

I'm going to bandwagon along with some of the previous posters. I HATED Morrison era Emma Frost. I thought she was flat out terrible. The sudden British slang and accent was dumb. She's not British. And her sarcastic comments every five seconds was awful. I hated the new revelations about her childhood, Hellfire Club days and how basically everything about her was fake. I liked the idea that Emma Frost was just a bitch because that's just who she was. Not that she became one by circumstance.

    This.

I admit Morrison gave her some good one-liners and a decent motivation (once Jean got into her mind). Whedon wrote a fun, snarky Emma with some really deep-seated issues that I enjoyed reading. And of course Claremont writes powerful, morally-ambiguous women like nobody's business, regardless of what side she was on.

But Generation X Emma was an intriguing character who didn't need to go balls-to-the-wall stripperiffic to hold people's attention. She was commanding and confident, sneaky when she had to be and always strong. She was trying to atone for her actions as the White Queen, but at the same time she was never really preoccupied with them to the point that it hurt her rapport with the Gen X kids. I liked her because she was becoming more than who she had been without losing the dangerous elements.
