"...mean girl with a heart of gold..."? I think not.
Which category does Milligan's fall under? That's my favorite.

I like the original Emma best. That woman was a strong mind-swapping/zapping assassin-making horse-killing sadistic bitch.I think she did care for the Hellions in her way, but that did not stop her from using them if it pleased her. Gen-X showed her being too soft. Later when Marvel wanted to center a book about her, they de-aged her (there's no way she was a contemporary of the X-Men in her first appearance) and made her a victim. I don't see the original Emma as anyone's victim. Recently, her sexuality and abrasive wit is what writers show most.
The X-Men have a problem of turning their enemies into allies so there aren't any good villains they can fight against, but I can buy her wanting to train and protect mutants. I wish they didn't have to change her history in the process. Based on Emma's background, she should be with Wolverine teaching mutants. The main reason why she is in SF is because part of her role is "Scott's lover."
Original x-villainess was better. Also preferred her in her mid 30s not her mid 20s.
I liked her best in Gen X, but also in uncanny when she was still her bitchy self, like that one time she said she's her own best friend to Kitty etc. She seems like Scott's shadow these days, I'd love to see her going back to being her own person.
She is too much of a follower now. I miss the bad ass Emma of Hellfire. I dont think she will ever revert though.
Started in 1991 with X-Men when I was pre teen. Have almost every issue since and a good portion of the older stuff.
Byrne/Claremont - Hellfire Club White Queen.
EAT GLASS, LAWMAN!
Generation X version, which IMO was a plausible development from the preceding villainous version. Morrison Emma only has a passing physical resemblance to the preceding version, basically imposing a personality from Morrison's ass onto an existing character.
Started reading the X-Men in the mid-1970s.
