Default Significance of Dead Hippocampus in Issue #5?

Forgive my sucky search-fu and lack of understanding, but ...

What's up with the dead Hippocampus in the beggining of issue #5?

It seems odd to me to start the issue that way, but then when Poseiden shows up later, there's no mention of it. Wouldn't he be mad? Am I missing something? It's got to be a clue, right?

    Thoughts?

Perhaps is Azz's subtle way of saying that folks who preferred the pre-FlashPoint Wonder Woman should stop flogging what he sees as a dead horse.

lol. On it's own, that would be hilarious (and I did think of the dead horse imagery/pun). But it wouldn't really fit the rest of the story. I'm hoping there's more to it than a jab at fandom.

Now that you bring it up, a dead hippocampus does smell fishy...

And it does a good job of that (imo). But I think there's more to it than just mood (or I want more to it? I don't know). To me, it kind of signals that there is more going on than an absent Zeus and angry Hera. Is Poseiden, and his realm, under attack as well?

Eating them or talking to them?

(And please don't complain about the smell . . . I use to work at an aquarium. Have you ever done a squid dissection, or combed through seal scat to analyze their diet? )

Hmmm. Well, the dead hippocampus shows up right before Leonox, right? What if Lennox killed the hippocampus and similarly pranked Hades in some way, and made Hades and Poseidon each think that the other was responsible and was already opening hostilities in the battle for Zeus' throne? Maybe by doing that, he lured them both to London to a confrontation, right before he tipped Wonder Woman off that the confrontation was about to happen.

Why would he do that? Maybe because the wind told him to. Remember, in #7, he says that he's not sure what he's doing is right because "the wind, she don't speak to me in here"? Seems like he trusts what the wind tells him--but what if the wind (and thus Lennox) is being manipulated by, for instance, Zeus, or whoever (Hermes?) is executing Zeus' plan in his absence? Maybe the whole point of the confrontation between Poseidon and Hades was to set up a situation that would lure Wonder Woman into Hades--because Zeus needs her to travel down there so that she can be prepared to play a role in the next part of his plan--or something like that?

Interesting ideas, Slvn. Not sure I trust Lennox in this (or anyone really) - he smells fishy.

I thought it was just a way to show that Poseidon was lurking in the area the entire time, and also showing how the gods and humans will indeed occasionally clash without humans understanding what it is their coming in contact with.
