If Kurt had survived Shitstain Coming, the split might have actually happened sooner. He was actually about to walk off when he first learned of X-Force, if not for the immediate threat they were in.
I'm kinda split on this subject. I think Wolverine and Cyclops were at the point that they were gonna split no matter what, but I also contribute a lot of both of their current behaviors to Kurt's death. I think when Nightcrawler died is when the schism really kinda started. It took a big part out of the X-men.
Except for Logan, you wouldn't think so from the way everyone has been acting. And that's only because the whole damn X-Men universe seems to revolve around him. We haven't even seen that much reaction from Kitty yet even though between the X-Men and Excalibur, they've had more panel space with each other than any other character.

Also, if he was still around and the schism did still happen, would he have went with Wolverine? I think he would, but then again I thought Storm, Jubilee, and Domino were shoe-ins to go with Wolverine too.
He'd help Logan with the School, but their friendship would have to be over. I don't think Kurt would write him off, he's a very empathetic and forgiving person. But it's an issue of trust. Even before Logan joined X-Force, he had been using Kurt as a drive-through confessional between vendettas and blood baths from Japan to Madripoor. Just because he's rebuilt the school doesn't mean that he's changed that much. Although the mission statement has changed a little, he's still running his own version of X-Force.

To have Kurt forgive Logan in time is one thing, but to have them being friends again anytime soon - if ever - would make Kurt look like a spineless chump. And after undergoing what would be an extremely traumatic event during Second Coming and finding out what Logan did to Mystique even though she betrayed the Red Right Hand to help him, Wagner is going to have to have plenty of reasons to be pissed at Logan as well as Scott.

Not cause he didn't believe in what Logan was doing but because he would've wanted to play the role Ororo's supposed to be playing in the team, voice of reason. Plus he believes in Hope and all that.
Believed in her as a "messiah" or as a young woman? Or was he just trying to comfort a frightened young girl?

Either way, it was written by Kyle and Yost. Everything outside of copycat characters and teenage girls being mutilated is outside their comfort zone.

Kurt would have been the voice of reason that was desperately needed in a pissing contest between two men.

But although everyone keeps banging on about Cyclops trying to safeguard the mutant race it still seems disturbing that he more or less conscripted all the juveniles as soldiers whether they wanted to or not. So in a way the Schism was agood thing in that both Logan and Scott offered them a choice - you can stay on Utopia or go and be a schoolkid again.

Um.... bit of a bad choice though, as although a lot of the kids didn't wantto obey 'lord and master Cyclops' many of them, such as Anole and Hellion, seem too mature to be treated like babies who have to get in a panic room every time there's trouble. There should have been a third option.

Yes, comics are far more interesting when all the characters are depicted as Billy Badarse with a few colourful quips thrown in for spice and laughs. Who wants fictional characters to think about anything?
    /sarcasm off

It makes for better reading when there is character variety, especially in a team book where so much seems defined by powers. Nightcrawler was the voice of reason and usually wisdom. Some of his team mates were shown to listen, some were shown to be indifferent. It is pretty logical that not all his friends would have had the same response.

I agree, though, that writers probably felt that any character showing an attack of morals and ethics didn't appeal to the ADHD infested twenty-something comic fan.

If Nightcrawler were leading the Gold Side then I'd consider it a practical choice and not a "let's make Wolverine headmaster" marketing scheme.

I agree. Nightcrawler would have made a much better fit than Wolverine in Jason Aaron's book. In fact, the weakest element of Wolverine and the X-Men is, well... Wolverine. He doesn't really fit in it with the overall tone of the book the way Kurt would. Unfortunately, Marvel doesn't seem to think that Nightcrawler and the X-Men would sell all that well.

I also suspect this is also an effort to rehabilitate his image due to his depiction in the previous incarnation of X-Force and in Second Coming.

Wolverine was depicted pretty flatteringly in X-Force to be honest.

I agree with this completely. Nightcrawler in the title, or leading the East coast team wouldn't have the selling power that Wolverine does. I still think it is a HUGE shame that Kurt can't even be part of the series now; he'd bring a lot to it.

They're doing pretty well without him.

Unfortunately, she did not take credit for killing Kurt.

I tend to agree, but then the sole reason the X-Frat even allowed to Kurt to briefly outrage is that he about to get needlessly fridged anyway. We can't have Sueclops have to actually deal with anything remember. :[

This was the worst part about Kurt's death. Little to no reaction from Kitty, Storm, Colossus, Rogue, Rachel, Psylocke, Meggan, Amanda, Mystique, etc, etc. We've gotten more reaction recently as a response to AOAcrawler than we did from Kurt's actual death at the time.

I wish they'd have let CC write it instead.

Excalibur was Rachel's idea actually. Kurt was first to support her in agreement though. :)

This makes me realize how much I miss the Nightcrawler character. He's what got me into the X-Men.
