I love GoTG but this movie makes me so nervous because I just can't see anyway they can do it justice without a budget far beyond what its likely to bring in. The CGI for Rocket Raccoon and Groot alone will be immense unless they go old school with puppets and animotronics.
Price your book at $3.99 and I'll trade wait. Make me wait too long for the trade PAPERback and I'll say screw it. I'm looking at you Marvel and Spider Island.

This would be great, glad to hear such excitement over the script.
Wonder how they'll pull it off without the Avengers approach, seems like a lot of characters to balance while establishing the Marvel spaceways.

God I hope they don't screw this up. Given the characters involved (Adam Warlock??!!), this could turn out to be one of my favourite comic movies ever.

So no doubt it'll end up sucking.

Having a group of characters on a team in a movie isn't something new.

I hope Rocket Raccoon is in it. I remember buying his first appearance when I was a kid and loving it because the Beatles song was one of my favourites. Never thought I'd see him in a movie.

I heard he and Groot are in it. The merchandise potential can't be passed up.

Would love it if the Henson people got involved with the alien work.

Yeah, Jim Henson's Creature Shop needs to work on this movie.

I know but it still is a hard act to pull off in a maximum 2.5 hour timeframe.
I wish they would have done a Nova movie first to introduce the Cosmic side of Marvel in a more focused film than this will be and from that lead into the GotG and then Avengers 2. Thor 2 will at the very least have some allusion to space beyond Asgard and Earth.

I have faith enough in Marvel Studios to know that their approach to cosmic will be better than FFROTSS, GL, John Carter, and it'll make space more interesting than Prometheus did.

The way they have been marketing him there is no doubt that they've planned on using him from the start. Probably a fucking selling point knowing how exploitable he is. Some of it will surely make me want to puke.

I'd say a mix of practical and digital. I'm sure some of those Pan Labyrinth creeps and the Hellboy creatures were half and halfs.

Here's the problem though . . . science fiction doesn't do well at the box office anymore unless its tied into an event franchise.

Star Wars, Transformers, Alien (Prometheus), and Star Trek are event franchises. That said the Star Trek reboot only did 257 million domestically and 385 million worldwide. Green Lantern was essentially a sci fi comic book movie that barely topped 200 million worldwide. The list of Sci Fi movies of the last ten years that underwhelmed at the box office despite being decent movies is long: Serenity, John Carter, Battleship. Terminator Salvation. The list of Sci Fi movies that utterly did nothing is even longer.

Given the special effects that would be required I don't see GoTG getting made for anything under 100 million. That can still buy you a heck of a cool looking movie . . . Sucker Punch which came out last year was made for 80 million and while many hate its story most did think it was visually stunning. Nonetheless GoTG is an utterly unknown commodity and the market, Avenger's being the exception, has been very soft on comic book movies of late since the last five big two company comic book movies before Avengers all grossed less than 200 million domestically (Thor, X-men First Class, Captain America, Green Lantern, Ghost Rider).

I want this to be a great movie, I just don't think it can be done on the budget its going to be given. And given how tough a sell a comic book sci fi movie with complete unknown characters to the general public is going to be I think its going to be even harder.

You don't need other movies to introduce the characters or the sitting first though. This multiple movie thing Marvel has been doing is just a marketing thing, movies have been setting up weird worlds and multiple characters for a very very very long time now.

I'm thinking very little of the characters would need to be digital, maybe Rocket Raccoon legs, but for the most part him and Groot could be done as practical effects.

This is exciting news. I have a lot of faith in Marvel Studios and I know they will put together a great team to make this movie. I'll be so pleased if Nova is in this movie.

Once again, way to go Marvel! You're doing a great job.

If Rocket Raccoon doesn't at least get a cameo then i will not see this film.
I hope marvel is reading this, there may be dozens, i say dozens, like me, who will not pay to see this film without Rocket Raccoon!

The Raccoon needs to be in it. Make him a total bad ass voiced by Bob Hoskins. Subvert the whole cute animal thing in spectacular fashion.

That's what this films needs, a bit of self awareness and a bizarre sense of humour. Not full on parody, but it needs to recognise the ridiculousness of itself.

So much potential here though with all the different aliens and planets they could visit. I can imagine a Mos Eisley Cantina esque scene right now with Quill and Rocket knocking back drinks. With Drax and Gamora then getting into a fight, destroying the entire place. Whilst Mantis is sitting there chilling like some kind of Buddhist.

I think a cool way of introducing them all without bogging the story down with origins is have the whole film from Quill's POV and have a little narration from him talking about the other Guardians and a comedic montage of how they all got to where they are. For example...

"Gamora? Most Dangerous Woman in the Galaxy? Let's just say a lot of guys have put her name to the test. And d'ast if she didn't prove it" with a scene of her taking out about 100 different alien mercs or something.

They already said a while back that Rocket Raccoon would be in the movie.
