Default Discworld vs The Dresden Files

So.....I was thinking about a new series to get into. Came up with these two.

And I did what I'm sure many posters do when they think of two properties, wondered which one could beat up the other one.

I know....very little about the two.....I guess Discworld has Death....but Dresden has....fairies? The White Court and somesuch other stuff?

I suppose if there's nothing to counter Death then we can take him out.

.........Isn't there a time fighter somewhere in here as well?
    Siriel:
Transient just likes to do that.

Why he keeps picking up ridiculous arguments and then try to defend them, I will never know.

.357 or .308 solutions to anything SHORT of Death, and binding rituals to deal with him.

Discworld steamrolls, easily. They've got universal cosmic abstracts whereas we've yet to see anything in Dresden Files that operates beyond a planetary level.

Discworld has those two. Equally nasty ones, though I can't recall any as powerful.

On the other hand, Discworld has more gods that operate on the same or higher level as the queens of the Summer and Winter courts.

The White Court and somesuch other stuff?
    Vampires?

No really, if it's each universe vs the other, Discworld stomps horribly, with all the cosmic entities and all.

Even Discworld vampires can be pretty potent, some of them having telepathy vastly in excess of anything Dresdenverse vampires have.

Magic using humans in Discworld are not largely as powerful, but some of them also have ridiculous telepathy, as well as the occasional overpowered reality warper.

I suppose if there's nothing to counter Death then we can take him out.

The History Monks, yes. They can speedblitz folks pretty badly.

On the other hand, they should be more worried about Time herself, as well as the guy who seduced her, on top of her son.

They go beyond speedblitz and into "create and destroy the universe before anything can react" territory.

...what I'm saying is, you need to bring up more specific battles between specific opponents, because Discworld curbstomps in the universe vs universe battle.

Between guys like Coin and The Luggage, I don't even really think Dresdenverse can win the ground war.
This is before we call in The Lady, or HEX, or Death's boss.

I think the big problem is Dresden Files is told strictly from Harry's POV. He only sees these guys operate on his level. There's no way an Archangel of God like Uriel can be tied to something as small of scale as planetary. Mab and Titania operate on Uriel's level at least. And that's not even getting into Uriel's boss.

Now, I'm not saying Discworld still wouldn't win but I don't think it'll be quite so lopsided as a stomp.

Quite apart from the lack of feats in that regard, there's no reason to assume that Mab and Titania operate on a level higher than planetary.

I mean, angels you could still make a case for (though frankly, there are plenty of Archangels in fiction who don't operate anywhere near planetary), but the Fae?

What we do have, is them operating on a level far beyond other creatures, for the most part. Which is really good enough in their universe, but they'd fare badly against Discworld.

The Dresden fae can at best be considered cosmic abstracts of the seasons, possibly on a universal scale. (Not that there's been anything to verify that, but they dwell in the Nevernever, which might be the same thing as the Bermuda Triangle warp that links Dresden Earth to Alera, explicitly another planet.)

Anyways, seasonal abstracts have very little on Fate and the Lady. And, if you want to get really nasty, the Discworld series also has Azrael, a multiversal level Death. Stompage ensues.

Actually, he only stays inside the ritual circle to be polite, not because it actually holds him.

True, Dresden Files is pretty quiet in regards to the higher level folks and what they can do cosmically. I defer to your judgement.

Correct. It's not the most powerful thing there, but it still tears through a whole bunch of stuff in the Dresdenverse.

    Would that work?
Not really. There are loads of abstracts that can't be taken down with a gun.

And the binding ritual, as noted, doesn't really trap Death.

Among normal denizens, werewolves would laugh guns off, though they'd get killed by any number of other stuff.

    A he's a Sourcerer.

More specifically, he's a special type of Wizard who serves as a source of magic, and his merely being on the world threatened to end it once all the other Wizards figured out they could use the magic he supplied to wage a ridiculously over-the-top war on each other.

Also he trapped all of the gods inside a pearl.

And let's not forget Greebo. He's got some ridiculous wins under his belt for being a housecat. Basically one of the go-to characters for Squirrel Girl-esque wins.

Probably not for the Luggage. If Coin didn't see it coming though, yeah a .308 ought to splatter his grey matter all over the place.

Has anyone in Dresden USED explosives? It's stated to be more or less the same world as ours, just with magic, so in theroy the Mundanes would have access to enough explosives to beat any thing the Luggage has been SHOWN to take, but I'm not sure we ever saw it in the books.
