Actually, it is. And actually, Hope may not even wind up being it's host. On top of the fact, that just because she's "off planet" would not stop the Phoenix from finding her. The Avengers have no experience dealing with the Phoenix. And the Phoenix will arrive regardless of where it's host is. Since there will still be comics published after this, we all know, whatever happens the bird isn't wiping them all out of existence.

the point of getting her off planet isnt that the bird wont find her, its that the bird WONT LAND ON EARTH ITSELF thats what matters! the bird can take hope as its host on pluto for all we care, as long is its not on earth burning people!, and of course there will be comics after this and earth wont actualy end but the chracters dont know that! there acting as they should to prevent a possible doomsday entity from making contact with the earth itself!
i dont think there way they went about it was the best choice but there motovation to keep the bird off earth at all cost is what is spot on!

its not the same, in this case the very existance of the people is at sake, and he isnt locking up hope or taking her life away he is just taking her into protective custody so the rest of the world doesnt burn for her sake

This is what amuses me: What do the Avengers know about the Phoenix? I understand that they are aware of it, but they've never faced it. These are the same Avengers who couldn't pull the trigger on eliminating Scarlet Witch after she murdered a handfull of their teammates. Now they think they're the best suited team to confront the Phoenix? Do the X-Men show up and tell them how to battle Kang the Conqueror? It must be a slow day at the Avenger's Mansion for them to bother to get involved.

there is a panel from uxm #175....it's the one where mastermind tricks the x-men into thinking maddie is dark phoenix reborn. anyway, storm calls captain america on the video phone to warn the avengers about phoenix and steve is incinerated along with the rest of manhattan while storm screams out her "goddess!" line. i wish i had a scan of that.

i truly do get that they are not the ones who are best suited to deal with the bird, but in this situation the people that are best suited for it, have no intention of atempting to stop the it! there willing to risk of the rest of the world for there own sake!
