AvX #2 Preview: They're Trying Really Hard to Make Cyclops Look Crazy

So an all out war on Utopia is the answer? Don't be dense. If Cap wanted Hope in custody quickly this is the worst possible plan. Did he think the mutants were just going to shit themselves in fear and hand Hope over? Cap's a delusional egomaniac. If Cap was truly interested in expediting Hope's capture, he could have achieved it either diplomatically or covertly. What's the point of the Secret Avengers if they can't sneak in and capture a teenage hostage?

I agree with lots of what's been said on this thread. The preview alone has multiple characters going out of their way to point out how crazy Cyclops is, Wolverine is definitely a little b*tch, and the Avengers are douches.

I hope this crossover is more interesting than Crazy Cyclops Goes Too Far, Avengers Stop Him. Snooze.

His viewpoint is dead on, his dialog is wonky. Damn you Bendis, I was a staunch supporter, but this is aggravating.

This. It seems pretty evident now that Scott will have a reasonable position in AvX (Phoenix is more complicated than just destruction, Hope is special, Avengers and the government aren't trustworthy around mutant issues) but will take it way too far and his behavior/attitude is going to be more extreme than the fairly compelling rationale behind his actions. Just like - say it with me, kids - Magneto. Sigh.

The dialouge is a little messy but we all knew that was coming. Im just enjoying this for what it is. A dumbed down beat fest. And the Magneto/Colossus fastball special was just full of fuckin' awesome! This my first event Ill read as its going on since returning to comics. Dang I guess my first since Secret Wars 2. Suddenly I feel very old....

Why on Earth did you read Secret Wars 2...? It's the biggest disappointment of Shooters entire career! After the highly enjoyable set-up with SW, he manages to f*** up something as simple as SW2!

His insanity and transformation into Magneto has been building up for the last several years, yes the dialogue kind of sucked, but if you didn’t see this coming, you’re as blind as a bat.

Hey, first time posting.
I usually just read, but this preview made me mad enough to want to vent off here.
I am just amazed that they are making Cyclops look this crazy. It's almost as we are seeing this from Wolverine's eyes. They might aswell put a yellow regenesis tag on the cover. I've seen Cyclops grow into a more militant person, but this is taking it too far. He has faith in Hope and the Phoenix, and he is very protective of her, but not like this. He has worked with Cap America before, during the Tabula Rasa arc the first thing he did was call him. This just feels too forced, even for an event. That line about "we got a messiah now they wanna take her" was just retarded, anyone that reads UXM can tell that this is not Cyclops.

That dialogue is just weird in this preview. Cyclops seems awkward and crazy. Storm invoking the name of a patriarchal god she doesn't believe in was horribly jarring for me, despite being such a small, inconsequential line. It definitely makes me want to just get to the fighting.

No, what's ridiculous is that this is exactly what Wolverine told Cap would happen and Cap did it anyway. He should've sent Stark since he's more diplomatic. Cap has just been looking to fight Cyclops ever since he threw Obama's medal in the sea. Cap is a nationalistic zealot who views all mutants on Utopia as "foreigners". Even Storm and Ms. Marvel had the sense to realize this was a bad idea.

actualy its not, the avengers have no wish to harm hope or keep her from fufilling her purpose, but at the same time they CAN NOT risk the the bird burning the planet to cinders, witch is alot more damn likley if hope becomes its host than her magicly rebirthing the mutants

Actually, it is. And actually, Hope may not even wind up being it's host. On top of the fact, that just because she's "off planet" would not stop the Phoenix from finding her. The Avengers have no experience dealing with the Phoenix. And the Phoenix will arrive regardless of where it's host is. Since there will still be comics published after this, we all know, whatever happens the bird isn't wiping them all out of existence.

im giving you an example of what could happen, of course the main universe hasnt been burnt to the cinder marvel would well........ be ending there universe, but what im saying the characters are acting on the fact that the bird is a cosmic/planet destroying threat, it matters not what has or hasent happened in the past

Here's also a few examples of what could happen:

1: The bird can find it's host in the Witch and destroy all of reality. Or possibly reignite the mutant race.
2: Hope will be the host and reunite the mutant species.
3: The Phoenix will find it's host in Iron Fist, and reignite the mutant race, or destroy the planet.

Also it's not a only cosmic/planet destroying threat. There's always rebirth where the Phoenix is concerned, and since the stories can only go so far with less than 200 mutants, it's time to rebirth their species!

I love how the image of Dazzler in the lineup is so obviously ripped from elsewhere. Makes no sense that Magma and Sunspot are suddenly involved.
