Default AvX #2 Preview: They're Trying Really Hard to Make Cyclops Look Crazy

We get some dialogue between the X-Men and some between the Avengers.

We also get the Colossus/Magneto fastball special.

Oh, and Cyclops is still being written as a maniac

He sounds like a child is what he sounds like "we finally got our own Messiah and now they wanna swoop in and take her", he sounds like a 7 year old who got a new toy but his older brother just showed up to steal it so hes crying about it.

    Its downright character assassination.

The new Avengers movie is out; they're trying to get him to act like Loki.

Only Loki's a lot more sympathetic.

This entire preview is offense to both the X-Men and the Avengers. Neither team feels like their dialogue or reactions are organic or natural for the given situation. When did both sides get a collective lobotomy? There may be differences and tensions between the Avengers and the X-Men in the past, but at no point did it ever feel like a brawl between the two was ever something necessary. This whole thing feels forced. House of M had the correct reaction to a global threat that affected both teams. They sat at a table and debated rationally, albeit heatedly at times about a global threat that affected both teams. Instead of doing that here they pad the narrative with a childish rumble fan fiction instead of the intelligent, sane, and rational narrative choice to have the Avengers and X-Men reach a consensus, and work together to stop the impending potential threat of the Phoenix Force.

Wasn't there an inconsistency with AvX infinite too? I would expect a few more.

It seems as if the whole thing is an excuse for both teams to act like arrogant douchebags. I hate seeing Colossus embracing his Juggernaut side as much as I hate seeing Wolverine on the heicarrier. And whatever happened to the Captain America who championed freedoms in Civil War?

Marvel seem to be in a race to show which of their two premier hero teams are the most unlikeable.

The real reason for AvX team fighting in definitely a marketing strategy for the upcoming Avengers movie. What better way to get potential new readers hooked on not just the Avengers but also the X-Men? Simple: Avengers versus X-Men and tying the whole event around one of the most mainstream aspects of the X-Men featured in both the Movies and the various Television cartoons: The Phoenix. This just screams marketing gimmick all over it.

This is is shit!! Everything about it is horrible, the only thing about this whole event I'm looking forward to is the jean grey faculty turning against wolverine for his participation in attacking utopia.

Unfortunately, they probably will make Wolverine join the Avengers as an advisor who only attacks because of Cyclops sending someone after him first...

What I'm more interested in seeing is what causes Wolverine to switch sides and attack Captain America in issue 3.

Cyclops has always been crazy, but that is pretty awful. I thought the painful dialogue would have ended with Bendis.

I'll admit, Scott has intimacy, trust, and self esteem issues that plague him every day, but at no point was he ever this batshit crazy. Well, I guess you could make the case that he started this mental breakdown since he got Hope back, but still, this level of nutter is coming almost out of nowhere.

Yeah, it looks like they are ramping Scott up to the bug-eyed-obsessive-dictator level. If the goal is to make it seem he is following the old path of Magneto, it is working, but then I think this is a logical progression of where the character has been going for the past couple of years or more.

It was interesting to see Wolverine in with the Avengers on this round. Like someone else said, I wonder what will make him switch to the X-Men side. My guess is that the school will get sucked into it and he'll go on the defensive. /shrug

I would think Storm would be a whole lot more about trying to smooth things out, considering her husband is up there. She might be pissed with the Avengers for pushing the point with Hope, but if she stayed true to character, she'd rip Cyke a new one for his behaviour.
