Default How Can Nintendo Boost The Wii U?

Its no secret that Nintendo's wii u has been nowhere near the success Nintendo was hoping for.

Part of the reason is that there is a small library of games now that can only be gotten on wii u. A very small library as most of the games are ports.

How can they boost sales now if they are waiting till E3 just to announce their new catalogue. That might take too long and time they may not have.

personally they shouldn't have released the WiiU so soon, they should have worked on it a extra year while also building at least a strong first party line up. they should have announced it this E3. but what's done is done. right now the only thing they can do is pump out first and second party games as soon as possible. but honestly ALOT of stuff has been pushed back this year on all three platforms.

Too soon to say if it's a success or not. Nintendo is not a sprinter, they like the long run.

And in the end, it's always them who makes the more money.

Growing up, I was always a Nintendo fan to the point where I would stress to other kids how awesome N64 and later gamecube were compared to the playstation stuff and even xbox even though I knew deep down that those systems could handle more and do more things like play DVDs and such. I got the original wii for one reason and that was Super Smash Bros Brawl and please dont get me wrong because I have had fun playing mario kart wii and super mario bros.wii but that is really about it. My friends and I still use my wii for netflix, Mario kart, and even Mario party but then again the mario party we use is the one for the camecube since everyone likes actually having a controller.

I think that Nintendo made a huge mistake by trying to make money on the gimmick of having a motion control for the wii because even though I enjoyed the force unleashed for wii, i could have played that on other systems with better graphics. The two other systems came out with motion controls to compliment their systems and some might even say they did it better. I think people stopped taking Nintendo seriously if you are really into video games.

What can they do? Nintendo has fantastic franchises that simply need to be updated for the modern gaming era. As an example:

Mario Kart and Mario party: Although Mario Kart wii did have a online feature, it was the most simplistic feature out there. If I am going to be playing against people from around the world I want to be able to actually talk to them while racing, I want to see leader boards to increase competition, and downloadable content or free updates like new characters, karts, and maps to keep people interested. Mario Kart is the only racing game I have ever actually liked but there is so much more they can do with it. The same stuff can really be applied to Mario party. Now, My friends and I ALWAYS play mario party 7 to the point where we know all the ins and outs of it and we like it but half the time we just talk about how much more awesome it could be. Downloadable contents, online multilayer, leader boards, online chat features. All of this is basic stuff that they should have done years ago but they can still do now.

    A Pokemon MMO:
Now, I have not played Pokemon since Ruby and Saphire and to be honest I still think that Gold and Silver were the best games (You just cant beat fighting yourself from the R/B/Y) but I can remember as a kid thinking that they needed to do a counsel version of the main Pokemon series rather then just have that be used for games like Pokemon Stadium. If they can pull off whole world environments for Zelda games then I dont see why they cant do the same for Pokemon. Have the player design their own character, choose their starting region, starting pokemon, and literally walk through a forest and see wild pokemon running around. This is something they could have done when I was in 5th grade (year 2000) and its a shame they have not done it yet.
and all they need to do to keep it even more awesome? Make it an MMO. Make the world of pokemon come alive by being able to meet friends online in everywhere from Pallet town to Indigo plateau, trade, battle, breed, and whatever else people do in the hand held pokemon games now-a-days in a beautiful 3D environment. This would be a great way to expand on the time features that they had in gold and silver and could even add seasons. One thing they would have to do for this of course is update the battle system from the turn based attack that is used in the handheld games and stuff like pokemon stadium. If I have a Pikachu with high speed then in a battle I want to be able to control that Pikachu running circles around another pokemon while blasting it with thunderbolts. This would evolve the game from simple strategy to skill with a controller and with the Pokemon you are using. Pokemon would become a fully fledged esport that might even rival starcraft.

I think nintendo needs their own fighting franchise. Not smash bros which is a party fighting game but something akin to sega's virtua fighter.

The Wii U needs more games. Lot's of them so there is an actual reason to get one.

Don't overthink it, they could lower the price, worked for the 3ds.

Actually I agree that a Pokémon MMO would make millions for Nintendo.

Yep. Needs lower price by 50 dollars, that will boost sales.

I recently sold a wii u over ebay that I won in a contest, but I already own it, so ebay it went, I even asked if anyone wanted to buy it from me first from people I know, I even offered 300 dollars for it. Nope, nobody wanted it. The final price on ebay... 300 dollars. So, if I bought this system and sold it on ebay, I would have lost 50 and 50 dollars in taxes in Ontario.

And everyone saying a pokemon mmo would be successful is correct, that's the one thing that could give WoW competition.
It's built as an mmo already, strong multiplayer component, never ending list of things to collect.

Would a Legend of Zelda MMO work?

I think they backed themselves into a corner by being part of the current gen when most people are ready to move on. At this point, they have to survive on the strength of their games which, I think, is the only solution. There should be a huge push to get a bunch of high quality stuff out there. As someone suggested, a Pokemon MMO would kill at the market as it would not only be what fans want but also something new to a formulaic franchise.

Basically, more compelling software. Honestly, nobody except the manufacturers should care about sales. Just the games.

Edit: The Deus Ex: Human Revolution director's cut is a good example. They're fixing the boss fights!

The Wii U does not play DVD or Blu-Ray. Nintendo apparently believes physical media is dying.

*It should be noted that the hardware in the console is actually capable of handling the playback, but Nintendo doesnt feel like shelling out the money for the licensing software.
