Just out of curiosity, has anyone here ever seen Tony Akins' art on his run on Jack Of Fables? I have seen some of it (but not much) and I thought he did a very good job on it. Do you think perhaps he might being trying to mimic Chiang's style to much or perhaps the superhero comic look does not mesh as well with his art?

hmmm...I do not know.

His JoF work is bloody good. At least I really liked wot I saw. He is an artist with his own distinctive style. And I can appreciate that. But...

My main complaint with Akins' WW art is the inking. It really looks sloppy when compared to his pencil work which seems much more precise and controlled. Also, the overall finish particularly his in-panel compositions, oftentimes seems rushed and not particularly well thought out.

Maybe you are correct...maybe if he focused more on bringing his own style and sensibility and not trying (seemingly) to suit Chiang's it would be a much better, visually.

I said this in another thread, but might as well repeat myself; When Akins tried to copy characters Chiang originally did, they are not good, but when he uses characters that chiang had not done, it is very good, so yeah
