19th Place: Steve Seagle (30 Points)



Steve Seagle was one of the underrated runs of the 90s. He took over after Scott Lobdell left the series and with Joe Kelly continued the X-franchise. His regular artist was Chris Bachelo. His cast featured most of the X-Men me as Uncanny and X-Men were fairly connected. He also wrote Alpha Flight vol 2 which was cancelled after 26 issues. He quickly left the X-Men due to disagreements with the editors (shocking). His run on X-Men was brief, but one of the few memorable ones post Lobdell and preMorrison.

18th Place: Zeb Wells (37 Points)



Wells shocked X-fans when be brought back the most recent New Mutant series. The title was a reunion book that brought back the original New Mutants together, but this time as a squad of X-Men under the leadership of Cannonball. Their first battled faced them against Legion, crossed over with Siege, Second Coming, and Necrosha (where he resurrected Cypher and gave him a new voice and concept to his powers), but the fan favorite arc Rise and Fall of the New Mutants was Wells masterpiece. He brought back the Inferno babies, revealed Magik's plan, and had the team battle for their lives and the entire world. While Cannonball, Moonstar, and Magik seemed to be featured over the rest it is clear the fans really fell for Well's run.

The creator. There is nothing more to be said about Stan "The Man" Lee. While compared to today's writing standards his work seems to be a little dated, but without Stan Lee there would be no X-Men, nor Marvel Universe. Stan Lee created Xavier, Magneto, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman, and Angel... staples of the X-Line. After creating superhero after superhero Stan Lee finally thought of the laziest yet most creative origin yet, what if they were just born with their powers. Lee only wrote the series for 19 issues, but in doing so create one of, if not the, most popular comic series of all time.

I'm surprised that with the Man of Action success he hasn't been feted more by the big two in recent times if his run here was popular too.

Again, just stating this for context, I have not read most of the 90s Xbooks so have no idea about whether he's to my tastes, but I appreciate the impact he's had on bringing quality stories and characters back to kids adventure animation along with his stablemates.

I'm happy they could at least beat Fraction. I was worried since they were on a more obscure title, but their impact can't be denied, what with creating an entire new generation of X-people and all, and I've always been a fan of cult classics. I still kind of feel they were screwed over, not being able to do anything but watch as their creation did a complete tonal 180 (with various plot developments that seemed designed to insult them, to boot), but it's not like it's the same level of over-screwage as some of the Golden Age guys like Bill Finger, who lost the right to even have their name on their character.

I still don't get why they gutted that book. It actually brought in new readers instead of the "new readers" who only want Wolverine, Cable, Deadpool.

I think I was probably the only one to vote for Tieri and Faerber, lolz. Wish Hama hadn't placed so high, but I guess more people liked his Wolverine than disliked his Generation X. Austen shouldn't have placed at all. He killed off Skin and give him a misnamed tombstone, then had his old Gen X friends reminisce about how much they wanted to have sex with him while visiting his grave.
