Default The Pirates! In an Adventure With Scientists!

I managed to finally see this yesterday afternoon and it's by far the best film of the year so far. The entire thing is a complete joy and should be seen with an audience of kids and adults like the one I was in and see which group is laughing at what jokes as there's a lot of stuff in here for adults which kids won't get.

Wonderful film and Hugh Grant didn't annoy me like he does in every film I've seen of his.

    Trailer.

Oh, I've seen trailers for that, but here in the US it's apparently called The Pirates!: Band of Misfits.

I have liked nearly everything to come from Ardman Studios, starting with the wonderful Wallace and Grommet shorts. Ardman and Pirates? Seems like a "can't miss" idea. Unfortunately I usually only see movies on disc anymore. So it will be a few months before I end up owning a copy of this one.

Um . . . does the movie have anything to do with scientists? Because I didn't see any scientists in the trailer. I'm not sure the title change is really a big deal here.

    Charles Darwin is in it.
    "We must fight on!"
"We'll die. We fight and we die, that's how it goes."
    "Then we die gloriously!"
"There's an important word there, and it's not gloriously."

Come on, man, you could have Google it.
It's called that because that's what's happening in the story.
Neil deGrasse Tyson should be angry and complaining about it.

Why should they be complaining about it?

See that's not funny. The real title is funny but then again Charles Darwin is a hero in this film so I can't imagine that going down well in parts of the US.

Why Tyson should be complaining about it?
Cause he is mad that they are shutting down all that NASA stuff. He went to congress to talk about.
He wants more science to be out there for the kids!
    And now this! Come on!

    Seriously?

Tyson has NOTHING to do with this film. This film is meant strictly as entertainment. The content of the film has not changed (to my knowlege) only the title from over seas to america. This is nothing new. Film titles change country by country all the time. It is a practice as old as film itself.

NOBODY should be mad about so insignificant a change as a subtitle to a movie.

Name changes 90% of the time are done because in a different language the stuff doesnt translate a well.
Needless to say the original language of this film is English and in the US, last time i checked, they also speak English.

    Que?

Seriously though, that still doesn't change the fact that a title change isn't worth getting mad about particularly to someone who has nothing to do with the production.

The Avengers in England is going to be titled "Avengers: Assemble" to avoid confusion with the long running spy dramedy. Should someone get pissed about that?

The title change will probably hurt book sales, unless of course they re-title that as well.

The title change was probably due to studio fears that "Scientist" in the title will scare off viewers, the same way they thought "Philosopher" would scare off Harry Potter readers/viewers. Marketers have a pretty low opinion of the general public, and unfortunately it's well deserved.

Even if "Scientists" survived with its title intact, I guarantee "The Pirates! in an Adventure with Communists" wouldn't.

Come on, this is a tremendous example of how the people that put stuff out hurt society.
Everyone should be worrying about this.

No... because it's to avoid confusion as you said.
There is nothing being avoided here.
