I think those pages are a flashback or memory of some sort. Check out Beast in true Beast form and Colossus has hair.
Life looks better in black and white.
You give panel time to Cyke because he's 'the leader', because you want someone to be kind of a hardass mutant authority-figure, maybe a bit of a fanatic. What does Gambit bring to the table that any of a half-dozen other characters (notably Wolverine) don't? He's kind of blandly awesome without anything interesting to hook into.
Love that Simonson artwork. Always found Cyclops kinda dull, Gambit for the win.

Wow, Coipel's art is so beautiful that all it takes is ONE PAGE to keep me interested. I hope we get lots of Magneto, Xavier, Thor and Storm on the second act, so we get Coipel's versions!!
Nice art by all the artists involved. I've long been a fan of Coipel and it's great to see Walt doing Marvel stuff again. Too bad I don't buy crossovers or events on principle any longer. Alas...
Gambit seems to me to be one of those characters that hardcore comic fans overrate in terms of overall popularity. I liked him well enough during his heyday during the Jim Lee years in the early 90's, but he's not the kind of character that well ever achieve quasi-iconic status like Cyclops. He's just not that type of character.

Nice article and lovely preview art. I'm glad we're getting some homage to the Dark Phoenix Saga. I was a bit concerned that Marvel would try and gloss over that and for good reason. The history of the Phoenix is so convoluted and messy. I wouldn't put it past them if they tried, but I'm glad it looks as though they're making the effort. That means it could still fall flat, but I'm willing to give it a chance. I also look forward to seeing how the events of AvX affect books like Wolverine and the X-men. The Jean Grey Institute is still in its infancy and already the force most associated with Jean is coming back to destroy everything. If Wolverine hopes to recruit more mutants, he may want to think of a name change.
