Default Choose the Five Best New Series From 2011!

Do you feel there's a Best New Series of 2011 that deserves to be recognized for its quality and contribution to comics? Now's your chance to nominate one!

After the full list of nominees for the 2012 Will Eisner Awards were revealed, many fans and creators noticed the omission of the "Best New Series" category.

"The judges chose to not have the New Series and Painter categories this year because they didn’t find enough contenders that reached the level of quality they were looking for," said Eisner Awards Administrator Jackie Estrada in a statement paired with the nominee announcement.

Many creators, including Ron Marz and Phil Hester spoke out with the belief that there is no lack of quality contenders for the "Best New Series" award.

"Very unfortunate Eisner judges chose to ignore New Series category due to lack of 'quality,'" Marz said via Twitter. "We do NEW better than anyone."

"Eisner committee: You could throw a rock through artists' alley at SDCC and hit a full slate of worthy Best New Series nominees," Hester said, also via Twitter. "In fact, I'm willing to turn the entire comics awards process over to throwing rocks through artists' alleys."

In response to Hester's Tweet, Estrada responded with specific criteria for the award, saying limited series are not eligible and at least two issues of the series much have been published in 2011, asking, "What would those series be?"

As Ron Marz says, "Nothing stopping the rest of us from recognizing New Series. If you like something, tell everybody about it!" So, in order to help answer Estrada's query and to help recognize the standout new series in 2011, CBR is opening up nominations for "Best New Series" to you! Head to this forum thread where you can nominate five possible contenders for Best New Series of 2011. All you have to do is list your five favorite contenders from 2011 in order of preference, starting with the top contender at #1, working your way down to #5. The open nomination period will run until the morning of Tuesday, April 10. After tabulating the nominees, we'll open up a poll Tuesday evening to allow fans to vote on which of the nominated books were the best of 2011 with the winner revealed on Friday, April 13.

You may nominate up to five titles for the "Best New Series" award with the following criteria:

    1) It cannot be a limited series.
    2) At least two issues of the series must have been published in 2011.

All you have to do is list your five favorite contenders from 2011 in order of preference, starting with the top contender at #1, working your way down to #5. Return on Tuesday to vote for the final five nominated books.

I'm looking at the Best Continuing Series nominees and Daredevil, Ultimate Spider-Man, & Rachel Rising all debuted in 2011. Maybe it's Best Continuing Series that needs to retire!

We struggled against apartheid in South Africa, supported by people the world over, because black people were being blamed and made to suffer for something we could do nothing about; our very skins. It is the same with sexual orientation. It is a given.
