Theory #1: We saw Roderick Kingsley's real face in one panel of ASM#649......how do we know that Kingsley is not his brother, Daniel? If I was a betting man, I would bet you guys that Roddy abducted his brother, brain-washed him, and got him killed as a way of revenge.
Theory #2: Hobby and Mysterio could be working together. Beck could had messed with Urich's head.

You know, I haven't been paying the Mysterio angle enough attention. With Mysterio faking deaths left and right of people for cash, who's to say Kingsley didn't pay the man well to fake his death and set up a new patsy? I sorta like this theory.
I thought about Daniel potentially being the dupe, but as a hopeful writer, I have plans for the character should I ever get the chance to write a Spidey book. Longshot, I know, but I hope to see Daniel in some sort of witness protection program and a-ok. There's a ton of more potential in Daniel than just being a Kingsley stand-in.
"Seriously, where's the Hobgoblin when you need him?"--Peter Parker, Amazing Spider-Man Annual #36
"I'm being ignored more than Roderick Kingsley"--Me.
"Dorkiest joke ever. Use it at parties."--Steve Wacker (AKA J Jonah Wacker).
I just can't stop laughing about "Danger Zone" ... the zone. Of danger. ;)
I know, why even have a twin brother if not as an easy out for when you reintroduce and quickly kill off an established character? Even if Slott does establish the truth as he sees it, as long as Daniel's out there, there's always going to be the opportunity for another writer to come in and say, "Did you really think it was that simple??"
I like the prevailing theme of Phil as an extremely unreliable witness. I mean, the guy's bonkers. And like it's been said before, maybe he's getting more unstable because of the brainwashing, like that earlier example... who was it? Ned Leeds or someone else? Well, you get the point.
That's what I was thinking. The whole "Roderick-not-acting-like-Roderick" thing would make sense if it was Daniel brainwashed into thinking he's Roderick, but with a specific command... to go out there and ingratiate himself to the Kingpin as a potential minion.
Though if that's true, you don't REALLY need "Phil as a dupe," too. Oh wait, unless you wanted people thinking you were dead... But then, why haven't we see anything on the news or whatnot? Even a two-second clip of a headless corpse would be something. Maybe the people of NYC are just used to this kind of thing now to the point that it doesn't even make the news anymore.
Maybe Phil really did kill Daniel by chance, bringing about the need for a new dupe.
So many possibilities, as should be the case with any Hobgoblin tale, I just hope it's not just a case of fans overcomplicating something extremely simple that Slott laid out. But geez, that teaser about a major change in the status quo of Phil really has me wondering what it could be!
Hmm, but the August solits are out:

And they only have #691-#692 there, with no mention of Hobby.
Agreed, Mysterio's always a wildcard in these things, lol. I could see it happening.
