So, Dan...is Peter really going to give up the webs this year?

Is what you stated about the "Monkey's Paw" between Peter and Mary Jane basically meaning that they will get back together as a result of Peter passing the mantle to someone else?

    I would love that.

Peter should give up the mantle to someone else and then get back together with Mary Jane (via marriage) and then both should be supporting cast members to the new Spider-Man. MAKE IT HAPPEN DAN!

I think Peter being Spider-Man in 616 has run it's course. It's time for a new Spider-Man for the sake of new readers.

Peter may look young, but he's really turning 50. It's time for a younger, newer, Spider-Man.

If Peter was going to give up the webs, this would likely be a major announcement for Marvel.

Why would Slott announce it here?

No, don't make it happen. Peter Parker is Spider-Man. And erasing the marriage was the best thing ever for Mary Jane. That marriage ruined her character.

Don't anyone listen to this mad man!

Then Kingsley is instantly sidelined again for a long time, only to be bought back briefly to be instantly killed by some inexperienced kid who nobody was asking to return..

I like Dan Slott, but I'll never understand what he was going for here. The original Hobgoblin is just too awesome to be sidelined or go out like that. With Norman basically a Marvel Universe villain now instead of a spider-villain, we need a spider-centric Goblin back (on a glider, not with a flaming sword(, and it should really be Kingsley.
That is not PAD's fault. DeFalco decided to make it Ned Leeds but left the title before he could reveal it. The editors knew DeFalco's decision and had PAD carry out the reveal. He didnt' have much to work with so he did what he could with what he was given.

I may come back for that Lizard and Hobgoblin arc of Spider-Man. 2 of my favorite villains. Yeah I just may have to get it. And "Hobgoblin Inc." sounds pretty damn cool really.

It's slightly more complicated. James Owsley (who later had an acclaimed run on Black Panther when he was known as Priest) killed off Ned Leeds in Spider-Man VS Wolverine, which seemingly meant that Leeds wasn't a suspect. PAD decided that he was going to do something that had never been done in comics: reveal that the big villain was someone who had already been killed off.

If memory serves, DeFalco wanted Richard Fisk to be the Hobgoblin, and Ned Leeds as the Rose.

I think you're mistaken. Kingsley wasn't even in play during DeFalco's ASM run, and Ned Leeds was strongly implicated in mysterious dirty dealings. And DeFalco had no idea Stern wanted Kingsley as Hobgoblin.
