Not really being presumptuous about his homelife when he says 'my own mother hated me and tried to kill me, at least once by running me over with her car'. And really, how is anyone supposed to not insult the woman when he basically says she hated him and tried killing him several times, once by trying to run him over with her car.
As for giving him shit about his behavior, Selma's problem is the fact he has a habit of regularly threatening people and is violent to the point of being stupid. And by violent to be point of being stupid, I mean he threatens Gulliver, gets brutally beaten, and then KEEPS threatening him, as well as threatening the people trying to help him.
