Which is why I'm not so much bothered by the idea of players having high speed (aside from the fact that this will lead to stupidly long posts) as I am bothered by the fact that high-speed bosses can now never exist. Ever.

Because if they do, we all die. Because bosses can hurt you. And if they have high speed, you can't react.

So they won't exist. Which closes up potential for Cleric while leaving it for players.

Thus, in my opinion, either Speed shouldn't be changed, or you might as well remove it.

Infinite mass punch? No. Run by a person while holding a rock to get it up to speed, let it go in their direction? Yes. Boss built on 100 points who is 500 times faster than us with 50 points of Ancient Tech that lets him fire heat seeking nanotech poison darts? Yes. 50 point Elemancer who can lash out with a stream of water that gets pulverized with the Arcadian? Yes.

An Enhancer speedster might suck, but an Elemancer speedster is terrifying in this system.

Actually an Elemancer speedster is laughable because he will have to watch his techs sloowlyy work their way up to the enemy, who will then be able to react to them just fine.

Because Speed increases your speed, not your techs.

The only good combination with Speed and an energy stat was to let you fire off your techs that required preparation or to have spells that were either made of light/other fast stuff or didn't need to hit. Magic having vanished removes those options.

Approximate speeds in m/s, assuming an average human's casual speed is equal to his walking speed, which is 1. Running speeds are between 2 to 7 times faster than these speeds.

To clarify, I'm in favor of this discussion. I don't even know what max speed was in the previous games.

All I know is that I won't be playing a speed-focused character, but I would still like my character to be able to fight speed-focused characters of the same level on equal terms if possible.

    No, it doesn't.
It prevents speedblitz at low level. However, at high levels, it makes speedblitz much, much worse than it used to be.
This would be my issue as well.

Seriously, a high end speedster would end being ridiculously fast, and putting points in speed would end up being relatively useless when you are not running a speed focused character.

Honestly, as I believe I've noted before (though not in this thread), the only real way to 'equalize' speed and other stats is to remove it.

Otherwise it'll always be either overwhelming or not worth not being removed.

The best solution would, IMO, be to make Speed a boss-only stat to allow them to keep up with multiple opponents. Because then there's no worry of it being 'unbalanced', because the GM is the only one using it.

I would be fine with that idea, myself. I don't think speed adds anything to the game.

This would annoy me. I dislike boss characters doing things that PCs never could, at least under typical circumstances. If a boss can be an insane telepathic pocket dimension I should be able to become an insane, telepathic pocket dimension.

That's actually my main worry for this RPG. I find it highly compelling, but I am worried that the backgrounds of the PCs will make it that they do not feel like they are at the same field as their enemies. They're just people hooked up to strange powers and trained as a small army. Old games had PCs who were far stranger and more equal to their villains. Admittedly, this concern could easily prove false by Cleric's playing of the game, but that is what I am worried about.

Fair point. Let's see, Ramus with 100 speed was between mach 20 and mach 25, right? I think that was what I said it was.

Perhaps I should scale it as thus.

    Speed 5 = peak human.

    Speed 10 = Ringer speed.

Speed 15 = High level bullet timing.

    Speed 20 = mach 1

    Speed 25 = mach 5

    Speed 50 = Mach 10

    Speed 75 = Mach 15

    Speed 100 = Mach 20.

That is pretty much the same as before but with a slower early progression and capping a bit earlier.

I have no real argument against it.

That still does leave speed 100 as being 560 times as fast as a normal person. Far better, but still somewhat troublesome.

As Ptrvc said, speed should scale linearly, so generalists are a viable concept alongside specialists.

Also, Siriel brought up something interesting earlier, how does speed and power stat merge together? Say, can a speedster with water tentacles manipulate the water at speed, or would she be just as slow with her water tentacles as a normal person.

Is that comic book peak human, because regular peak human seems a bit low.

Also, the massive jump between speed 20 and 25, when compared to speed 20 and speed 100 makes anyone who gets to speed 20 and who doesn't try for speed 25 a fool.

    20 to 100 = 80
    Mach 1 to Mach 20 = 20

    80/20 = 4. Every 4 point of Speed after 20 gives you a mach.

Evens out the progression somewhat, and leaves out any "Must increase after this point or waste a ton of points" area in the curve.

I would advise the latter because that way it actually makes Strength a viable stat.

    Slightly off:

    20 to 25 = 5

    Mach 1 to Mach 5 = 4

5/4 = 1.25. Every point between after 20 but before 25 gives you 1.25 Mach.

    25 to 100 = 75

    Mach 5 to Mach 20 = 15

    75/15 = 5. Every 5 points after 25 gives you a Mach.
