Default I've missed the old Wonder Woman

I've recently asked a DC Panel at Emerald City Comic-Con yesterday about Wonder Woman having a secret identity and the spin change. They've responded that right now, she's status quo.

I missed the pre-New 52 Wonder Woman and her best elements IMHO (secret identity, spin change, flight), though I heard people say the current Azzarello-Chang saga is one of the best books in the current continuity.

Just because someone says it's the best on the stands now, doesn't mean it's the best ever, or even the best version of the story ;)

The Wonder Spin and Secret Identity may have crept back into the book after it was relaunched as a new #1 a few years ago, but that stuff didn't really make any sense in the continuity (that dated back to the '80s). Wonder Woman was clearly stated not to want or need a secret ID, and she never spun into costume...she wore it under her regular clothes.

I personally miss the Wonder Woman we had before her book was relaunched as a new #1 a few years ago. The Wonder Woman Greg Rucka wrote was really impressive.

Though it has rarely been used well, I miss the Diana Prince identity. It at least gave her the possibility of something resembling a normal life. I grew up with the lasso change myself but lasso or spin, it all went away with Diana Prince. I never liked the idea of her flying. Preferred the invisible plane (jet) myself.

I personally never liked the idea of her having a secret identity, especially when her theme is truth.

I could live without the flight, spin-change, and secret ID. It's everything else I miss. (see massive thread on WW #7, currently up to 108 pages...) :(

I whent from reading comics for the character to reading characters for the story.

Over the past ten to fifteen years, Wonder Woman showed little character and even less good story wriitng and plotting (IMHO)

Brian and Cliff have been telling real good stories and plotting the book extra good
all the while building Dina's/ Wonder Womans character for the better and introducing very under useds and
flushed out Gods to her D C world and introducing some new and interesting ones into the mix.

If returning to the old is her having super strength and sonic flight, but only using them for three panels
every 40 books and plots that go no where and Gods who do or impact very little of Diana's life and even less
of the D C Universe, then the old Wonder Woman can stay with the other comics in the reduced price bin.

The spin and the secret ID were reintroduced only a few years ago and were barely there before being phased out/ignored forever. I can't see how you can miss that!

I read comics for the story as well, but I see it as precisely the opposite re pre/post-Flashpoint.

For me, the use of the spin was always silly in the comics-- it lacked any sort of real visual "oomph"... I prefer the ol' lasso change-- I do miss certain elements for various eras and wish they would have combined various elements instead of scrapping most of it...

I would have loved a rebooted WW that combined some Golden, Silver, and Perez era history. Perez's main background and mythology, but work in some technological advancement stuff somehow. Steve is once again Diana's love interest. She has a secret id, but Steve knows it. She works in her DIana Prince id for the UN crisis bureau with Steve, and this is how she finds out where she's needed. They have a sexy, fun, playful and loving relationship and go on their world saving adventures together. No real use of swords and extra armour unless fighting a god or something. Invisible jet-- I say yes. I know flight is more practical, but I used to love all of those images of her standing on the wing of the plane as it zoomed through the sky...lol Lasso of truth but bring back it's older properties to compel. Revamp baddies in Dr Cyber, Ares, CHeetah, Circe, Silver Swan, and a slew of super human neo Nazis (just 'cuz she didn't arrive during world War II doesn't mean there aren't Nazis to fight!) Less grim, more hopeful, but still can kick ass during incredible fight scenes....

    stuff like that

And Amazons and gods that aren't so relentlessly grim and evil...

Um...This? I don't think you've been reading the comics all that closely in the past few years. Not to sound insulting, but Greg Rucka had the Gods playing a huge part in Diana's life, as they fought over control of Olympus, sent Diana into Tartarus to rescue Hermes and before that, brought the island back to life after it was destroyed in space. Just because Diana didn't have Zeus for a father back then doesn't mean she wasn't in the middle of their politics.

And as for character, Phil Jimenez had Diana dealing with the death of her mother, the corruption of her old friend and the presence of a new boyfriend. Simone had Diana contemplating childbirth and Rucka had her trying to find ways to spread a message of peace with her book. That's hardly "very little character". She hasn't been stagnant in years...the problem is that DC hasn't felt happy with her in years, and keeps "shaking her up".

Heck, even just LAST YEAR we saw her whole story get turned upside down, before the title relaunched! So how can you possibly say it's been boring?

It's fine, This, if you enjoy/prefer the current direction of the book to the way it used to be, but you can't really make an argument that Diana wasn't doing much, or that the Gods were dull.

Thing is, nothing really significant changed about WW.
It´s the same person, give or take.

Her book may have changed a lot but the character itself?
You could transplant Gail or Rucka´WW into this book and both would act pretty much like Azz´s Diana - give or take-.

    Not Phil´s WW, though.
That would give a speech to the centaurs before caving their heads in. ^_^

    J/K,
    We heart you, Phil. :D
