I don't know about the in-continuity stories, but in "Whatever Happened To The Man Of Tomorrow", Lucy wasn't among those who went to the Fortress. In fact, I don't believe she was mentioned at all.

    Such a nice clean look!

That Superman looks so open and approachable.

Now we have Prince Superman with his aristocratic high collar, theater curtain cape and Tank Girls boots...

The looks inspires the need to lower your eyes and bow before you ask him for help.

Its so 2012, where if you're poor, unemployed, sick or in trouble you're stupid and leaching off the state.

I'm not sure about Lucy. In the early 70s she was presumed dead, then came back as that old lady, got her youth back but remained white-haired. In the Lois Lane min-series published in 1986, even as Superman was being rebooted in Man of Steel, Lucy showed up with brown/ash blonde hair. This was a promising story, so it was unfortunate that it was already out of continuity when it was published. I think there was some suggestion that Lucy and Jimmy were no longer an item by then.

I believe we can thank Jose Luis Garcia Lopez for that model design. Check out Superman(vol 1) 307-309, 247 for his interior work. He is a stupendous artist.

I don't think the costume suggests all that you are saying and I am willing to give the creators a chance to tell the story that they seem to have developed for it. I will also say that the way Clark's costume generates around him is a really nice touch....so its not all bad to me.

I just read Superman 416 and its clearer to me how some people really liked the PreCrisis Luthor and don't like how he changed. I don't know if I find myself in that camp, but I must admit there is a completely different dynamic in the Superman/Luthor relationship pre crisis. So much so that its easy to see how Mark Waid used that as a touchstone for the Modius/Plutonian relationship in Irredeemable, and that is one creepy relationship from my perspective. I would rank issue 416 up there with one of Maggin's better Superman stories.
If the shoe fits: "a crankly old man standing just on the edge of a crowd gathered for a concert and stamping his feet yelling at the crowd to stop having fun, that they don't know what fun is."

Cavill reminds me of the Byrne Superman come to life. If they had put him in that suit with the larger S and Larger cape he would have looked like he walked out off the comic book.

Unfortunately, it's all in the can and unlikely they'll change anything at this stage.

If the Cavill costume didnt look so dark and dirty and had a classic S then I'd have no problem with it as far as a classic update goes.

Probably would just change the balancing lines and make them thinner and less noticeable/pronounced.
