I just want to start a thread to show love to our Superman. Whether it be Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, Byrne, Birthright, or Johns.
Please no DCnU Stuff in the thread. This is for the Superman of days past.

Definitive
2nd favorite
90's Superman has my favorite storys.
Silver Age Superman all the way... Swan and Klein's version will be definitive. The great thing about the stories back then was that the writers knew how to work around an all powerful Supes and that made for some interesting stories with some imagination behind them!
Thank you for starting this thread! I love the classic supermans
Mullet Superman is my "classic" Superman. Since it was the Death of Superman that got me onboard, that long hair era was at the bulk of my reading experience with the character. I was actually one of the few fans probably a bit weirded out at first when he cut it again for the wedding, haha.
Huge fan of Post-Crisis Supes here. I just loved the world they built for him, not only in his personality (to me, he'll always be Clark first) but with his supporting cast. It just felt more alive and real, like the characters weren't just NPC's in a videogame RPG for Clark to talk to. When he wasn't interacting with them, they had their own lives.
Then Birthright (and to an extent, Loeb) came along and quasi-flushed it all away. Maybe I should amend my post to say "huge fan of the Byrne / Jurgens era...
Foolishly, around the time of electric Superman, I gave up comics and sold my entire collection. Came back during the Johns Action run, and started gobbling up everything from Loeb forward (this was when I discovered how the "world" had changed after Jurgens). While I missed "my" Superman, I still started backtracking to fill in the gaps.
Currently, I have every Superman issue (Action, Adventures, etc.) from "Man of Steel" through "Crisis of the Krimson Kryptonite", and still working my way on collecting everything through to the end of the Jurgens run. I might even go to Superman #200. My plan, at that time, is to send them all off to get them sewn and bound.
I stopped around that general timeframe as well. I think the last issue I got on a regular basis from my initial Superman run began in 1992 was the issue where the Planet was shut down after Lex bought it or something. Right after the first Dominus arc, I believe. Never let go of the back issues though, still got 'em.
I had a REALLY hard time dealing with the retcon of the MOS origin. Hated the idea so much I wouldn't even give Birthright a chance. Hated it, hated the return of old Silver Age elements, all on principal. Looking back had the reboot happened in 2001 as opposed to 2011, I would've flipped. Then I checked out Identity Crisis due to all the pub it was getting, which started a general re-interest in the DCU as a whole, which then made me start warming up to the idea of Superman changing for a new era, so I opened my mind a bit, and by the time Infinite Crisis was in full swing I was back on the wagon.
I like Silver and Bronze Age Superman best. They had fantastic stories, and they had stories from various era's of Kal-El's life, and to the people that were part of his world (Jimmy, Lois, Kara). I think that a Superman Family (not Superman Family Adventures) comic would be a nice return (maybe do a Lois Lane feature in the back of Supergirl again.) Plus, using the imaginary story gimmick was always a way to shake things up without needing to reboot the continuity over and over again...
"Make yourself comfortable, I haven’t time to attend to it." - With these words, a legend was born.
My favorite Superman is the Bronze Age version (though Morrison's current version is pretty brilliant), written by greats such as Elliot S! Maggin and Cary Bates.
Gonna put up some Christopher Reeve for you as well. After all for a good number of use this is Superman.

Thanks for coming up with this thread for us members who're not that crazy about the NuDCU version of our favorite character. For me personally, my favorite era was the post-IC/OYL up until the relaunch. Not just because I started reading his comics during this time and there were very lackluster stories in this period but the way that Johns/Busiek portrayed him that really caught my attention.
Would love to see DC publish a omnibus editions of either the 90's or the 70's. From the few issues that I have read from other eras, these two really strike me as the most fun periods to read. Is there any way to make DC take it into consideration?![]()
Pull List: Batman, Demon Knights, Smallville Season 11, Wonder Woman.
