I have my reservations about the suit, but just like with any wardrobe, in movies I've learned to at least wait to see how the finished product looks on-screen before judging. Especially since we don't know if any FX bells and whistles might be added. The S though, there's no question in my mind to its awesomeness. Blows the SR logo away.

It looks alien and mysterious and definitely has the wonky golden age look to it.

Well here's the blog from Comicpalooza.

I like the logo but the suit looks like it's been sitting on a shelf gathering dust for the past few years. I'm not sure how I feel about the movie in general.

Ew, yuck! Where are the bright splashy colors, the uplifting colors, utopian colors?

Supes is supposed to be bright blue, red, and yellow.

The costumes and atmosphere is all dark like the Batman 'verse.

Which is why the shades of red, blue, and yellow have varied so wildly over the years in all media, right? Ranging from light to dark to muted to pastels? Not to mention the colors of Cavill's costume look different in every behind-the-scenes photo, depending on lighting conditions.

There is no "supposed to be" when it comes to the colors. Never has been. Never will be. Only that they be red, blue, and yellow. Anything else is open to interpretation.

King Krypyon, If they are meant to be blue, red and yellow why do you have a Superman picture were the yellow is Black as your avatar.

    :)

The "S" logo has cool effects on it but I'm weirded out by the fact that they basically used the Earth-2 Superman logo.

I prefer the Superman Returns one since it looks less retro but I guess I can do with this.

I don't mind the suit design, but the colors do look pretty dull. Hopefully they use FX/CGI to brighten it a little.

HmmMmm. Well, but they have Supes too gloomy looking, and seriously Jor-El looks to be leading a gothic/industrial band I am anticipating him to break out songs like "Head Like A Hole" or "Jesus Built My Hot Rod". The color composition is too muted and dark.

I wonder now about Krypton is it going to resemble Gotham City????? Or similar dystopian?

It's not so much lighting conditions so much as people messing around with contrast and brightness settings in Photoshop. In the 3rd photo above, Cavill himself is an amalgamation of two separate images and the cape was added in.

These are the original photos and give a more accurate idea of how the suit looks:

Your name is Kal-El. You are the only survivor of the planet Krypton. Even though you've been raised as a human being, you are not one of them

In the one picture with Cavill posing with the kid, the blue is very vibrant.

You didn't read a single word I wrote, did you?

Not to mention the colors of Cavill's costume look different in every behind-the-scenes photo, depending on lighting conditions.

Behind-the-scenes shots on the Kent farm? Heavily saturated red, extremely deep, dark blue.

Behind-the-scenes shots of Cavill and Adams on sandy setting? Heavily saturated red, extremely deep, dark blue.

Behind-the-scenes shots of the pitched street battle? The colors are all over the map, muted in some, rich and intense in others.

The photo of Cavil posing with the kid? Rich blue, slight pink tint to the red.

Same costume, different lighting in all the shots, the colors look different in all of them. Try again.

    Lets compare shall we.

You tell me which one screams Superman and which one just makes you want to scream. What a missed opportunity to instead go with what will be even worse the the Superman Returns suit. When will people learn the classic suit is always the way to go. :(

I'm sorry, but average movie goer doesn't give a crap what is classic or not. Let's face it, comic book readers like us are not the main target for the audience of superhero movies. Most ordinary, non-comic-book-reading people who've seen the promo shots of Man of Steel seem to think it looks great and have no trouble recognising that as Superman.

Also, since someone mentioned it earlier-

Yep, the colours do look a lot brighter in that pic, so I guess it remains to be seen how the suit will actually look when the movie comes round.
