Daken is a character with a lot of potential that only Marjorie Liu seemed to understand.

This whole drugs and Donna Kiel business neutered the character long before he was ready for that kind of story arc.

Honestly, I didn't like what Liu was doing with him. As someone said, with her, he was a "badass". With Williams, he just thought that. That was far more interesting than what Li gave us.

Her book was well-written and character focused and explored X-23s desire to resist her murderous impulses and gain control. Daken was the other side of Wolverine's old routine, the "immature killer with a heart of a gold but full of selfish interests." Daken's book, unlike X-23's book, kind of meandered and stumbled along and became plot-focused. Daken vs Runaways. Daken vs Drugs. Daken vs. Mafia. These plot-driven stories don't sell because they're stupid and vacuous. The reader gains nothing and the character never develops. If you didn't think Daken was interesting, blame the writers. Don't blame the character.

plot-driven stories are just THE WORST! Here I am, trying to enjoy an aimless rambling of no consequence and a f'ing PLOT shows up to derail everything? I say no way to that, dawg
