    Default Superman #7 Discussion

Pretty entertaining first issue of the new team, I'm glad to have Giffen on the book already.

From the first pages you can see an improvement on the dialogue over Perez' first arc and of course Giffen sense of humor shines as usual, especially on a scene between Clark, Lois and Jimmy. The art was pretty nice too, Jurgens' Superman is classic.

I have some mixed opinions on Helspont since his character and dialogue seems a bit cliche, fortunately it looks like Giffen is not taking him too seriously.

Well, looks like I'm back to Superman.

yeah, it was a relief that the book was so much more fun and lighthearted than the previous run

and to think if perez was still on, he'd be killing lana right now >_>

since using helspont first was an editorial mandate, and it's only two issues, I'm kinda just waiting for the real run to kick in lol
Grandparents dead - please no jokes

    make mine DC, thanks

Yeah, I have read about that.

Perez: "Hell yeah, I'm going to kill a classic Superman character that never made an appearance before on this new universe, that will make my story more exciting!".

You can see Perez' talent fading away.

Pretty good issue. Bunch of little story points got thrown in that should be fun to read. Superman's voice felt pretty spot on for most of the story and the art was nice. Helspont was an ok villain I guess. The book feels like it's missing something, but I'm not sure what. I'm willing to give it a few more issues to see where it goes.

I'm sure that Superman's characterization is due to Jurgens' involvement, he really knows how to write the character.

The dialogue is infinitely better then previous issues. This issue felt like classic Superman. 10/10.

Looks like they're going with a different explanation for how he wears the suit under his clothes. One of the covers of an upcoming Action issue has him folding the collar down, while this has him sort of "morph" into the suit after the shirt rip.

Maybe in Action folding the collar down is all he knows how to do but later he learns how to use the biotech more effectively.

That's what I was thinking too. I actually predicted this a while back, but people dismissed the idea as being overly complicated.

I'm loving the idea of this new costume, it's much more practical and modern than just wearing it under normal clothes.

Not only that but also creates the possiblity to make modifications of its design on the future (I don't like Lee's design at all).

Not only that but also the fact that he is wearing a cape. I mean come on its one thing to hide your cape under your clothes but it would be better if your costume sprouted a cape.

I'm not a fan of the art at all. I thought the dialog was "eh". Really wish I had waited for it to be $1.99.

I tried it. Jurgens really tried his best to reach fans like me who dislike this Superman. I'm never going to get past the look of the suit and it really brings this down for me. I love the fact he gave us a classic look with Clark opening his shirt to look like the classic suit, then it went down hill from there suit wise.

I thank Dan for doing what he can to at least reach us unhappy fans.

So is Krypton replacing Khera's role in the DCU?

I do love that we actually know how uncomfortable Clark feels on writing articles on himself. He's done that for a long time now, but they haven't really shown him feel this way until now, as far as I can recall.

Also, the way the costume comes on was pretty badass.

Yea I think it is. I had long speculated this back on the old DC message boards. The way that i've been looking at this is that Superman has now taken the place of Mr. Majestic in the eyes of the wild storm U.

By this I mean the wild storm guys always say Majestic as the end all be all of superpowers going as far as to name a classification of power after him: Majestic level. And from the small Superman references I saw in storm watch (wild storm heavy book) the members of the team storm watch recruited the meta human Apollo because the needed someone at a Superman type level in case they ever ran into him (this last part is a bit of speculation on my part but they basically said something along these lines (Storm watch #1))
