I hope Hunger Games teaches Hollywood that people will see a GOOD female led movie.

Katniss is a very different type of heroine, I don't think we've seen many like her. She could pave the way.

I think it'll just teach them that films based on popular young adult novel series (Harry Potter, Twilight) can make a lot of money, but they already knew that or they woudn't have made The Hunger Games in a million years.

'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

Yeah but todays cartoons have become more childish and... japanese if you like. I'm just saying, dont base people's perception of Batman based on a cartoon aimed at kids. The majority of casual people know him from the movies.

Why would it? They are gonna spend the money to make the two sequels and make even more money off them.

Katniss Everdeen = Wonder Woman without powers.
    DC: ASW ● A. Man ● Batgirl ● Batman ● Batwoman ● BoP ● E2 ● Flash ● Dial H ● JLD ● S Thing ● Wonder Woman
    Marvel: Avengers ● C. Marvel ● Hawkguy ● Thor ● W&XM
    Other: Saga

Well, yes and no. There are a lot of similarities but Katniss has shut off her emotions in order to survive, something WW would never do.

Sadly I agree. We will see Plastic Man before Wonder Woman. Truly sad.

I think people think Batman is just as silly as ever, and that 'nananana Batman!!!" is as alive as ever. And that it's just this one director who's doing somehting else with it.

I mean, the Brave & The Bold cartoon coincides with Nolan's films, right?
If anything Bale's Batvoice has become a pop culture meme in it's own right. Everyone loves joking about how overdone his performance is.

That said, I'm not terribly optimistic. I'm happy Hunger Games was a huge hit but now I'm sure if anything all it'll do is ensure that any future female-lead action flicks have to be based on best-selling book series before they get made.

Im with Carabas on this one.

I read the Hunger Games book and took my wife to the movie. And its good, for what it is. Silly, over the top. Dystopian future reality tv. But this does little to help Diana's cinematic cause. Katniss is far from the first female action lead to do well at the box office, and to be honest, I think Kill Bill did more to pave the way for a WW movie than Hunger Games, even though it obviously made less cash.

Hunger Games is just another in a growing line of marketing heavy films translated from young adult novels. Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games. The main role being female, and the action aspect does help a little bit, but in no way does this show Hollywood that Wonder Woman would make a great film.

And besides, Diana has had more false starts in Hollywood than any other comic book character. From the Joss Whedon (sp?) script to the failed David E Kelly television show, every couple years someone tries to bring Diana to "a" screen. So far, they always fail. Diana is a far more complicated character than Katniss, and her mythos is much larger and more fractured, her character more involved. There is no clear cut, defining version of the character and the effects budget would have to be pretty hefty, well above what Hunger Games needed. That high budget requirement means the movie would have to do that much better to make a profit. Its one of the problems that Superman Returns and Green Lantern had. Both made decent money, but their budgets were so high due to effects WB did not see as much profit as they wanted.

Much more to the point, WB does not seem to believe in its DC properties other than Batman. They have failed to provide a good film franchise with their heroes, and rather than thinking their efforts were flawed, they seem to think the characters themselves are flawed.

Best thing that could happen for a WW movie is for new management to take over at WB. Until then, all the female lead movies in the world wont help her cause.

I never thought it was in question if an actress could garner huge box office numbers as the main lead.

I think there are other factors involved.

If Superman and whatever other movie they make succeed, then DC is more likely to do a WW movie. But GL did fail. It's their fault of course because they messed it up but you know how they think...

Oh, it was in question alright.
Not long ago, a Hollywood producer flat out said that he would have nothing with female-lead action movies.
