Saddest "kill for the greater good" deaths

It is tragic because the guy was mentally messed up because of the things that happened in his life.
He had no life outside of the person he had become and that person cannot compromise.

I think if there's one thing the movie did better than the comic it was his death scene.

Well, considering that The Boss was super-loyal to the US (to the point where she even killed her lover because she was ordered to) and she had sacrificed her only friends in this world for the sake of her mission, I don't believe she would have wanted to go into hiding.

Also, Operation Snake Eater specifically called for The Boss' death. The Russians would also want her body, because they wouldn't consider a hero like her to be dead until they've dissected her corpse.

So... she would have had to prepare a flawless corpse, make sure that Big Boss never even hinted that she was still alive, never let anybody see her ever again, and even dispose of herself in a way that would make sure nobody could identify her. The Russians were prepared to nuke the crap out of America over her betrayal, imagine the freakout they would have if it turned out she was still alive. They'd think the Americans were responsible for her continued existence.

not to mention, they couldn't take snake's word for it because he was her last student and super loyal to her. plus, the boss didnt have a lot to live for. her only child taken from her and raised without her knowledge, the man she loved died by her hand, her entire unit was killed by snake, her health was shot due to solar radiation, the government she was so loyal to threw her under the bus, and she took the fall for a tragedy that wasn't her fault. she wouldnt have had a nice life if she had lived and would've lived her last days on the run from both the US and the USSR.

Which I loved. All of Oz's schemes and murders and deception... All for nothing. A great coda to a dark story.
