Let's be honest - this show could be absolutely fantastic, and it still wouldn't be as good as Spectacular Spider-Man was.

"The animation style is in step with that of "Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes"

But is it set in the same continuity?

    Nope.
Iron Fist and Luke Cage will be appearing as adults in AEMH Season 2.

It is no surprise that this is the first comment in this thread. Good, Bad, or Ugly, "Ultimate Spider-Man" is never going to escape the shadow of the predecessor that died so it could exist.

I hope the show lives up to the review.

TSSM would have died whether this show was ever greenlit or not. Its fate was sealed the second Kids WB was extinguished.

    I second this.

Spectacular didn't die for Ultimate, it died because Sony lost the animation rights. Once that happened there was no way Spectacular was going to continue.

This looks amazing. I'm pretty shocked. It actually looks like something I'd want own.

I'm definitely more interested in this than in the rebooted flick.

Spectacular was the best Spiderman show I've seen.

For those interested, there was a Smodcast recently (podcast available on iTunes hosted by director Kevin Smith and producer Scott Mosier) interviewing Joe Casey about the show (which Mosier has written a few upcoming episodes for), and about their connections to Jim Mahfood (who did a lot of the art for the Askiewniverse comics). Really interesting stuff, about comics and working in show business in general.

So what? While it'd be great if every cartoon was better than the one that preceded it, that's not realistic, and it's not gonna prevent me from watching and enjoying new cartoons.

My position on it is sort of like this. Personally, the original BTAS is the top of the tops for me as far as Batman adaptations go but this doesn't stop me from loving 60s Filmation Batman, 89 Batman, Nolan Batman, Under The Red Hood, Brave And The Bold or anything else. Even if I don't think they're as good as BTAS or whatever, nothing is stopping me from enjoying them.

I can't fault anybody if they see it and it just doesn't work for them but personally I love seeing Spidey in animation too much to let my TSSM fandom limit me. On just a superficial level, I've never seen a Spidey cartoon that looked this good. Unless the stories are mediocre or crap, I already know I'll enjoy this.

It's interesting to me that after all the attention and hype of Miles Morales, Spider-Man is still going to be Peter Parker.
