Count me as another fan who is a little sad to see Etta, one of comic's only plus sized women, now skinny.

First the Wall, now Etta. Damn shame.

On the skin color front it's nice to see more diversity in DC though. Im glad they're making the attempt, its long past time.

And whats this about racists? I cant speak for anyone else here, but racism does not seem to come into it at all.

Most of us seem happy to have a character who has been white since the 40's given a darker shade. That seems pretty far from being racist to me. The only thing we're not thrilled with is her losing the weight. Not because we want fat black women, but because we want some weight diversity in comics as well as everything else and Etta was one of the few big girls around.

And there have been some fat men in DC. Perry White is pretty chunky in most artists' versions. Both Martha and Johnathan Kent have been drawn as being heavy, though less so in the last couple years. I seem to recall Jim Gordon putting some weight on in the 90's too. And who could forget the Legion's Bouncing Boy? Lex Luthor was overweight for decades. Ivo sometimes is. Not a big list honestly, but thats sort of the point. Overweight people have always been a vast minority in comics, and we just want to see it represented a little better and characters who were overweight to begin with being skinny now makes that minority even more so.

Now it seems like there are almost no fat people in DC; male, female, white, black, or blue or anything else. The only one who comes to mind readily is Susie Su from Red Hood, and that is one fat white chick.

Are people really saying nu Etta is super skinny? Really? REALLY? She seems average sized to me.

I'm not surprised to see them go this route, but yeah...I miss our pre-52 gal.

I don't mind a thinner Etta since her weight was so often played for laughs, especially in the Golden Age. (I did appreciate her in Perez's run as a woman struggling with her weight and eating issues.) Amanda Waller on the other hand, she was a formidable woman who just happened to be large; so I was not pleased to see her slimmed down.
    Pull list:
Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Worlds' Finest, My Little Pony, Sword of Sorcery, The Flash, Animal Man, Birds of Prey, Lone Ranger

Marvel has a Editorial edict against smoking. Does DC have a similar Editorial edict against non-evil fat people? Is fat=evil in the DCnU?
Best DC: Animal Man, Wonder Woman, Batman.
    Best Marvel: Daredevil.
Best Independent: Walking Dead, Saga, Mind a Gap.

It seems so. So far Sumo in Batman and Resurrection Man was a baddie. Suzie Q in Red Hood is also a baddie. Anyone know any fat good guys. Catwoman's dead fence was chunky but she was an anti-hero.

Yeah, she doesnt seem to be super model skinny (which is TOO skinny, I think) but compared to how she used to be, she's pretty skinny.

Well, she did drop a lot of weight in Simone's run when she became a Federal agent or whatever it was, but I dont count that. That was not Etta; that was a new super spy character wearing Etta's name.

I have no problem with a thinner Etta.

Now a thinner Amanda Waller, THAT was a crime against mankind.

I'm a little perplexed by this idea that black women in comics are depicted as fat. I can think of Pre-New52 Amanda Waller but most characters, female and male of different ethnic backgrounds, are thin/average. Storm, Vixen, Misty Knight, Monica Rambeau, etc. If they had kept Etta as a larger than average sized woman it would have had nothing to do with her skin but rather the decades long history she has. I think most fans are noticing that larger women have been slimmed down in these different/new interpretations and Etta was slimmed down once before in the WW animated movie so it's perplexing why they won't retain the history that she's larger than average. Gail Simone and Aarong Lopresti did a fantastic job with Etta and she didn't look out of place but did look refreshingly different because she wasn't given the standard average body type of every other female character.

It SEEMS as though there's an aversion to depicting larger women regardless of their skin color.

That being said I love that Etta is back and I hope they give her a great back story and an interesting sub-plot because I don't think she's just a secretary.

Kudos to Geoff Johns for keeping her connected to the WW family and also for the great work with Steve Trevor.

Thin Amanda Waller is just as annoying to me as Power Girl without the boob window.

Thin Etta doesn't bother me as much because I never really saw her appearance as essential to the character, since she's basically Wonder Woman's non-superhuman friend (most heroes have those). But if it's a problem, why not just say Etta was bigger at one point and then lost a lot of weight? Most of us have friends who have went from plus-sized to thinner.

Also, I think Amanda Waller's weight and Power Girl's window made them more imposing and powerful due to mass. Etta's weight, on the other hand, was used more for laughs, which has problems.

    It´s usually the opposite, though.

Interesting. The latest Etta matches the one in the David E. Kelly pilot! I hope they include the Holliday girls somewhere. Becuz Etta and the Holliday girls are actually re-castings of Diana's nymphs...just as Steve is recasted from Orion.

Say...what incarnation is this? How many have there been since the Perez Reboot?

I'm usually against "race-lifts", unless they're in different continuties. You shouldn't change a character etnicity, but make the one you already have more prominent.
Then I realized, hey this is a different continuity!

About the weight, she's a normal human being, she isn't a top model. Yes, she's far from fat, but they certainly didn't change her for fanservice reasons.
I don't know, maybe fat people are harder to draw? That's why they're eliminating them?

Man the Reverse Flash was more powerful than anyone ever knew. Flashpoint not only changed history it was the perfect diet for Waller and changed Etta's ancestry! Wow.
