Anybody check out the sampler disc of this yet? Heard it's pretty impressive. Word is that they're going to release the whole series, although that might take until 2020.
Although TNG was sort of edited in video, it was shot on film and the blu-rays have taken the original film masters and cleaned them up a bit. Also since the FX are not quite as dated as TOS, there is not as much 'new' effects being done.
I wonder if there are any plans to show it on TV, as the TOS ones were, or perhaps on Netflix streaming. Netflix of course streams the broadcast/DVD versions of the series, although it only does the redone special effects version of TOS (Although the blu-rays, which have an option to watch the original FX in HD, are available for rent). Also I'm curious whether the same treatment will be done to Deep Space Nine and Voyager (Enterprise is HD already so no real need there). DS9 in particular has some cool battle scenes which could look good in HD.
Makes me wonder also if we'll ever get the Director's cut versions of Star Trek:The Motion Picture on blu-ray.From what I've read The new FX and sounds for that release were only intended to be shown on DVD (480P resolution), and would need some work to fully work in HD. Hence the original theatrical cut being on the blu-ray.
Any thoughts on this?
