Color me intrigued. It looks like Milligan has a plan, knows where to take these characters and hopes to explore more of their world, which all sounds great.
Maybe we'll get a great quality superhero run like we did with his x-statix/x-force and others.
Saludos desde el exilio a una generación de destructores.
The pacing with JLD kinda irked me, but there was some good stuff there. I'll definitely keep up with Stormwatch when Milligan picks it up. :)
I really don't understand why DC can't get a stronger artist on the book. I mean Authority had guys like Hitch and Quitely on art duties. Even Stormwatch PHD had Mahnke. Why's it so hard to find a good artist?
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!
I'm going to repeat what I had said in previous threads: I don't think Milligan's well suited for this kind of book but I'm sure that he will at least make me care for the characters when Paul Cornell failed to do so.
Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.
i like Stormwatch, but based on Milligan's Red Lanterns and JLD (which is pretty much everything i've read by him), it's pretty hard to get excited... especially when he talks about slowing things down. his JLD was probably the slowest book i've ever read, in fact i dropped that pretty quick.
still, will be giving this a good chance or two. i like the premise of Stormwatch and there's a lot of potential for greatness there, i think.
I don't mind Sepulveda. Though i wouldn't mind a better artist, though there are few that can actually handle Stormwatch well. Considering the widescreen nature of the comic. So what will Ha do after Action Comics? He'd actually be a perfect fit. Didn't he do 2 issues of Authority??
Red Lanterns might be my most hated book of the new 52. I'd rather they keep jenkins on.
Grandparents dead - please no jokes
make mine DC, thanks
Milligan is hit and miss. Either he is brilliant or he flops. So definitely one to watch and we'll see fast whether he succeeds or not.
He did do 2 issues of the Authority, (though the first issue did not actually have any of the Authority characters, it was setup, and did not star them at all) and I think the character Subject Zero in Project: Superman, which he also drew, was supposed to be Flashpoint-Apollo, and I would love to see him do more.
But Bryan Hitch will also be free in about 6 months, just saying... ;) He's not Marvel exclusive anymore, and he did an alternate cover for Action Comics #10, so he's already doing work for DC, in addition to what he's doing with America's got Powers, which is a 6 issue miniseries.
I don't think we necessarily need a widescreen artist (as much as I'd love to see Hitch draw the characters again) though. Milligan himself said that he'd be focusing more on the characters, which means what we really need is an expressive artist. It's not the characters or title that determine if you need a widescreen artist, it's the style of writing. The characters and concept are flexible enough to be written in a number of styles, not just splashy widescreen. Not that i wouldn't love to see this, it's just that it's a bit unlikely with Milligan writing. We are going to get a lot of character exploration, emotional stuff. I am fine with this, as long as he took some time to read up on the characters, and is not basing the characterizations just on what Cornell did, cus, frankly, I hated those characterizations, they did not feel like themselves.
Though I think this interview was conducted a little while ago, solicits have confirmed that Sepulveda is only doing Milligan's first issue, the Red Lantern crossover, then he's going to Red Lanterns. The new artist on Stormwatch is Ignacio Calero, who did issue 7. I prefer Calero to Sepulveda.

I think while Milligan is trying to be polite, he does address the problems in Cornell's arc. The plot was kind of messy, and Cornell focused more on trying to showcase how cool the characters are. It wasn't bad, but could have been better. Dialogue and characterization improved in Jenkins's run, but the story was filler. Milligan seems to think this book fits him more, contrary to what people are saying here. Guess I'll give him a fair shot.I think the first storyline, though it had a lot of things I really enjoyed, was really hectic and threw up a lot of ideas and characters (and that's one of the things I enjoyed).
I actually think the opposite. Sepulveda was more *detailed* but all that detail was covering up severe anatomical and perspective errors. Anatomy and perspective is something I'd place under 'technical' in my definition. but, and I laid out specifics if why i think this in the thread about issue 7, I think Calero was VERY rushed for issue 7, and I suspect hsi drawings will tighten up a lot in subsequent issues where he has more time to complete the pages.
Is Martian Manhunter still going to be on the team? I didn't warm up to any of the characters when the book relaunched, but J'onn is my favorite DCU character. If he's still around, I may give this a chance.
