Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat: Will it ever happen?!?

We've had X-Men vs, Street Fighter (which definitely needs to be re-released), Marvel vs. Capcom, Capcom vs. Tekken, Mortal Kombat vs. DCU....when will we get the game fight enthusiasts have been craving for years: Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat? From what I hear, Midway (now a part of Time Warner, I believe) wanted to do it years ago, but Capcom nixed the idea. Is there any possibility of this ever happening, or do I have to stick to game emulators like Mugen and fan made stuff on YouTube?

Gameplay styles are incredibly different, im not sure how they could do it, but i haven't played street fighter vs tekken either.

I can only hope. I understand that, yeah, someone at Capcom liked Mortal Kombat but wasn't keen on the idea of someone like Chun-Li having her spine ripped out.

I'd still like to see it though. Capcom and Netherrealm Studios could do a title each, like the Street Fighter/Tekken crossovers. I'm almost as keen to see something as ridiculous as Capcom turning Kano's eye laser into a Cyclops-esque hyperbeam as I am to see Guile flash-kicking someone in half.

Couldnt imagine Ryu and Ken doing fatalities.

Ken's burning Shoryuken would be a killer (ba-dum-bum) Fatality, and Ryu could obliterate people with his red Hadoken or kick their heads off with the spin kick.

I could see a mix of Heroic Brutalities and actual Fatalies for the SF villains and secret/unlockable "dark" versions like Evil Ryu or Violent Ken. Also, wasn't MK overhauling the gameplay for every release for a while anyway? Just come up with a hybrid system taking bits and pieces of both games, and viola.

They would have to split the profits, Capcom doesn't really need to do that since they are making money without doing so, and theres nothing to suggest they would make more money by doing the game than they would doing Street Fighter 5 or similar.

No they wouldn't, they aren't splitting the profits for Street Fighter x Tekken, and they didn't for their SNK ones either...they would more likely do the, "we make our game, you make yours" thing they've been doing.
